Considine, Joyce

Pittsford: Passed away peacefully on July 5, 2014 at St. Ann's Community in Rochester. She was 77.

Joyce was born in Rochester, the second child of Dr. James I. and Genevieve Mooney, who predeceased her. She grew up on Chili Avenue, attended Nazareth College, and became a teacher at St. John's in Spencerport and the Monica B. Leary School in Rush, where she taught elementary students. In 1961, she married John J. Considine of Rochester, and after her own children were born, she devoted herself entirely to her family.

Joyce was a member of the Chatterbox Club and Monroe Golf Club, and she was an avid duplicate bridge player. Her first love, however, was always her family. In order to see her children and grandchildren in three time zones, she may not have conquered her fear of flying but she did fight it to a standoff. She laughed easily and often, and was cracking jokes even as she moved into hospice care. She rarely left her family or friends in much doubt about her opinions, particularly about national politics. She had an impressive ability to eat sweets without gaining weight, possibly because she would never take a whole serving of dessert if she could take an indefinite number of partial servings.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her brother, James I. Mooney and his wife Kathleen Mooney; and by her brother-in-law, Dr. Edwin "Skip" Rague.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 53 years, John J. Considine; their children, Thomas M. (Helen) Considine, Sarah E. (Mark) Grannis, and Kevin P. (Christine) Considine; their ten grandchildren, T.J., Jack, Elizabeth, Marta, Michael, Kevin, Will, Carolyn, Charlie, and Carter; her sister, Ellen Marie Rague; her brother, Thomas T. (Norma) Mooney; her brother John E. (Kathleen) Mooney; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday, July 7, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 9:30 AM at St. Louis Church, 64 S. Main St., Pittsford, NY 14534. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
