Hull, Merran Joy

Fairport: August 4, 2014 at age 71. She is survived by her husband, V. Joseph Hull; daughter, Meredith F. Hull of Arlington VA; brothers, Geoffrey (Stephanie) Winwood-Smith, & Adrian (Lucinda) Winwood-Smith, both of Australia; also a niece, nephews & cousins.

Merran was born in Grafton, NSW, Australia, but also spent part of her life growing up in Toowoomba. She came to the United States in 1974, but always considered Australia to be her home. Although not intending to stay in this country permanently, circumstances changed when she met and married Joseph in 1977 and had her only daughter in 1980.

As a Registered Nurse and Midwife, Merran worked at hospitals in Australia, Nauru, Dallas TX, and a medical mission in Haiti, before permanently settling in Rochester, NY. She continued her nursing practice at both Highland and Genesee Hospitals, before eventually transitioning to home nursing care.

Merran had a great love of music and flowers. A member of the Asbury First United Methodist Church, she sang in the Chancel Choir and the Rochester Oratorio Society. Combining music with her love of flowers, Merran often decorated these organizations with her floral arrangements. Flowers were ever present in her daily life and when not decorating the church, she treasured the opportunity to make floral arrangements for friends and family.

Merran was also an avid animal lover, especially cats. Many cats found their way into a permanent place in her home over the years, becoming a special part of the family. Even in the last months of her life, Merran was insistent in helping a stray cat that continually came around to the home. This stray has now become an integral part of our family and will always serve as a permanent reminder Merran's love and devotion to animals.

On SUNDAY (8/24) at 2 PM please join the family for Merran's Memorial Service at Asbury First United Methodist Church (1050 East Ave., 14607). Please consider honoring Merran with a donation to The Pluta Cancer Center (125 Red Creek Drive, 14623). Online Condolences welcomed at:
