Mary Louise Whitney Bell Obituary
Bell, Mary Louise

Canandaigua: Mary Louise Whitney Bell, 88, left this world on Thursday, March 24, 2011 surrounded by family and caregivers who loved her very much after a sudden illness.

Mary Louise was born on January 17, 1923 in Rochester, New York. She graduated from Victor High School in 1940, and briefly attended The University of Rochester. She married Jean Bell on September 5, 1944 at the Victor United Methodist Church in Victor, New York. They lived on the Bell Farm in Allen's Hill, New York and then moved to Victor, New York. They spent their summers at Canandaigua Lake and moved there permanently in 1979 into the house that Jean built for them.

Her joy was her family and her music. Her goal in life was to be a wonderful wife and mother. She was very active in her church and spent many years giving to the music ministry in the Victor United Methodist Church where she was the adult, youth and children's choir director. In her earlier years she was a paid soloist in Hollywood, Florida.

She continued to enjoy singing following her retirement as music director and for the last 30 years, Mary Louise shared her musical talent with FF Thompson Ewing Center and Elm Manor Nursing Home residents in Canandaigua, New York as a volunteer.

She loved to read and spend time with friends and family. Mary Louise enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren and possessed a great desire to keep in touch with her family and friends, never missing a family birthday or class reunion.

Mary Louise Whitney Bell is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Harriet Whitney. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jean Bell and their two children, Mark (Jackie) Bell of Bloomfield, New York and Kelli (Richard Quehl) Vestal of St Charles, Illinois and her grandchildren Steven Bell of Victor and David Bell of Penfield, New York and Ann Vestal, DVM of Missoula, Montana.

A celebration of Mary Louise's life will be held at 4 P.M. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Victor United Methodist Church, 106 East Main Street, Victor, New York 14564. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall.
