Valvano, Bart A.

Fairport, NY: Bart A. Valvano, passed away in his sleep on the morning of February 21, 2013 at Highland Hospital in Rochester at the age of 91. Valvano was born on November 9, 1921 in Linden, New Jersey to Domenic A. Valvano and Maria I. Verrastro Valvano. Valvano graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Columbia University in New York, N.Y., earned a Design Medal from the Architectural League of New York City, and was a memberof the American Institute of Architects. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theatre, and was injured in a plane crash in the Philippines during service. He was a lecturer at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Valvano was an avid tennis player with diversified interests in arts, crafts, music, photography and philosophy. Bart is survived by his wife, Maria (Antelli) Valvano of Fairport, his sister Marie C. O'Brien, her husband, Walter F. O'Brien both of Clark, N.J., their son, Valvano's nephew, Walter J. O'Brien, of Clinton, N.J., and nephews Bruce Valvano of Napiersville, IL and Mark Valvano of Orange City, FL. Bart was pre-deceased by his first wife, Olga Narovna Valvano, in 1980 and brothers, Dominic W. Valvano & Andrew C. Valvano.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport. Interment will be at the White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road Pittsford, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Veterans Outreach Center, 459 South Avenue Rochester N.Y. 14620.
