Virginia Beach, VA: Linda H. Bagby, 74, was called to her heavenly home on January 6th 2014 after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She died peacefully with her family at her side.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of NY Supreme Court Justice and Mrs. C. J. Henry, she graduated from the Allendale/Columbia Preparatory School and the University of Rochester where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Sorority. She subsequently earned an MA in counseling from San Diego State University and, after moving to Virginia Beach, she earned an MSW in Social Work at Norfolk State University.
Linda worked for the Tidewater Psychiatric Hospital; Comprehensive Mental Health - Adult Outpatient Clinic; and as a social worker for the Virginia Beach School System. She also had a private practice as an L.C.S.W. and, in addition, was a very active volunteer worker in both Rochester, NY and Virginia Beach.
She was an Elder of the Third Presbyterian Church in Rochester and active in the Junior League in this city. Her involvement in church activities continued here in Virginia Beach at Wycliffe Presbyterian Church with the choir and several committees.
In Retirement she enjoyed: family activities, traveling to many faraway places, contract bridge, tennis, and meetings with Marine wives and the myriad of friends she accumulated over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard Bagby; 3 children: James and Robert Bagby and Christine Sadowski; a sister, Mary Henry Durfee of Bonita Springs, FL; and 4 grandchildren: Jack Bagby, Nicholas, Katharine, and Anna Sadowski .
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, January 12th, 2014 at Wycliffe Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to any local charitable organization of your choice.
