Farley, Barbara S. - Denver
Barbara Ann Saxen was born on September 6th 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Anna Anderson and Erik Saxen, two young immigrants from Sweden. Erik suffered from tuberculosis and moved with his family to The Swedish Sanitarium in Denver, Colorado for the dry air and treatment. Barbara married her high school sweet heart, Charles Dale Crosby, had two children and lived in Cherry Hills Village, just outside of Denver. Barbara's divorce in the mid 1960's lead to her work at the Denver Chamber of Commerce. She met and married Robert G. Stovall Jr. Barbara became very involved in fund raising, especially for her beloved Swedish Hospital and Medical Center, where she was appointed to a seat on the Board of Trustees from April 1974 to December 1988. She was instrumental in raising significant funds, not only for Swedish but CNI and other charitable organizations. Barbara was honored and received many awards for her achievements. Barbara was hired by the University of Denver in their fund raising department and was sought after in the political arena for her energy and talent. Several years after the untimely death of her husband Robert, Barbara met and married William H. Farley. They spent their winters in California and Hawaii, playing golf and tennis and enjoying life with their friends. Within a few years of Bill's death, Barbara moved to an assisted living facility close to her former residence. There she remained active and enjoyed life with her friends. Barbara is survived by her two children, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A "Celebration of Life" for Barbara will be held on June 4, 2016, at 11:00am at Augustana Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name can be made to The Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado or to The Swedish Medical Center and Hospital in Englewood, Colorado.
