Loving and devoted mother, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012, surrounded by her children, after a brief illness. At 94 years young, Bernice exuded a level of energy envied by those half her age. Always eager for new experiences and adventures, she was an avid traveler. A passionate genealogist, she was an active member of the Black Genealogy Search Group of Denver, Colorado, and spent many years researching her family history. Always fashionable, she possessed a keen sense of style. Her incredible zest for life was an inspiration to all.
Born on November 4, 1917 to Estelle Goodwin Pitts and Bradford Pitts, she was predeceased by her siblings, Eva Pitts and Edward Pitts. She was the wife of the late William Lumpkins. She is survived by her adoring children Vivienne (Wayne) Davis, Yvonne Lumpkins and Denise (Albert) Irwin; her grandchildren Bradford Lumpkins, Christiaan Irwin and Julian Irwin; her great granddaughter Chloe Lumpkins; her cousins Lezlie Moore, Mikel Moore, Dr. Juanita Pitts and Debbie Pitts, as well as a host of friends whom she considered family.
