Steve "Dr. Death" Williams, 49, of Lakewood, went to be with the Lord on December 30, 2009 after a six-year battle with throat cancer. Steve graduated from Lakewood High School in 1978 and went on to be a four-time NCAA All-America heavyweight and an all-Big Eight Conference football player at the University of Oklahoma. Making his career as a professional wrestler, Dr. Death became one of the most successful wrestlers in the U.S. and in Japan. After winning many titles and championships, his final match took place in Tokyo in October 2009. Steve dedicated the last six years of his life to teaching and proclaiming the authentic love and hope he found in knowing Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Steve is survived by his 17-year old son, Wyndam Williams, of Lakewood, CO and daughter, Stormy Maxwell and husband Mitch Maxwell, of Ruston, LA and three grandchildren; mother, Dorothy "Dottie" Young, of Lakewood, CO; two brothers, Jeff Williams, of Golden, CO, his wife Martha and family; Jerry Williams, of Carlsbad, CA, his wife Heidi and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald C. "Jerry" Williams, stepfather Richard "Dick" Young and sister, Linda Collins and husband Mike Collins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 8th, 2:30pm at the Mile High Church, 9079 W. Alameda, Lakewood, CO.
