William Hinch Obituary


HINCH, WILLIAM William H. "Bill" Hinch died March 26, 2005. He was born in Amity, CO on June 16, 1919. He attended Denver elementary schools, graduated from East High School in 1936 and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Denver in 1940. During World War II he was chosen to join the Manhattan Project (1942 - 1945) at the University of Chicago where he participated on the development of the first controlled nuclear reaction, which occurred on December 2, 1942. He also worked at the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, New Mexico in the Health Physics Division and was present at the Trinity Shot, the first detonation of the atomic bomb. After the war ended, Bill returned to Denver. After working at the Bureau of Reclamation, he co-founded Engineering Consultants, Inc., a consulting engineering firm, which designed large projects of dams, power plants, transmission lines and flood control. He retired in 1971 to spend more time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine, and his son, William Jr. Funeral Service, Friday, April 1, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary. Entombment, Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the University of Denver, 2190 S. High St., Denver, CO 80208 and/or the Salvation Army, P.O.Box 17607, Denver, CO 80217.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Hinch's passing. His son, Billy, has been a wonderful friend to me for several years. I know that Billy will miss his father dearly.
