TANNER STUHR Obituary

Tanner Michael Stuhr, age 22, lovingly came into this world in Salt Lake City, Utah and passed into eternal life on October 23, 2016. Tanner attended school at St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary and Middle school, and he loved his freshman year at Juan Diego Catholic High School, in Draper, Utah. Tanner spent most of his childhood in Salt Lake City before moving to Colorado at the age of 16 with his mom and sister. After moving to Colorado, Tanner graduated from Holy Family High School in Broomfield, Colorado in 2012. Tanner was a multiple sport athlete for most of his young life, playing football, basketball and baseball. His passion for all sports was something that was readily apparent after meeting Tanner and his sports knowledge was unprecedented. Tanner attended Regis University in Denver Colorado his freshman year and then, the calling to play basketball took him to Santa Barbara City College, where he fulfilled his dream of playing basketball at the collegiate level. Tanner then returned to his beloved Regis University, where in May of 2016, he proudly graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Neuroscience. Tanner volunteered at the Denver Rescue Mission and gave selflessly to all he came in contact with. Tanner also coached and refereed numerous youth basketball teams, and did so with all of his passion for the game. He adored his family with every bit of his enormous heart, treasured his friends and gave to them until he had no more to give. Tanner loved all sports but, playing basketball and golf, the Denver Broncos, the Utah Jazz, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, and his beloved CHICAGO CUBS (they need to win the WORLD SERIES FOR HIM!) were undoubtedly his favorites. His hearts, his 3 dogs, Peanut, Jazzy and Lily will be at a loss without his love and affection; they always knew how to make him feel better when nothing else seemed to work. Tanner had an enormous and kind heart that knew no limits when it came to those in need. Tanner is survived by his devoted mother, Valerie Stuhr; loving father, Peter Stuhr; sister, best friend and biggest fan, Delaney Stuhr; step-mother, Alexis Norling; and step-sister, Milan Norling. Tanner is also survived by his mentor, friend and basketball coach at Holy Family High School, Coach Pete Villecco. Coach Villecco's guidance, friendship, love and support meant more to Tanner than words can ever explain and Tanner never stopped appreciating his love and devotion. Services will be held in Tanner's honor on November 2, 2016, including viewing from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM, with a Catholic Funeral Mass at 7:30 PM, at St. John Francis Regis Chapel, 3333 Regis Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80221. A Celebration of Life reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the following: The Denver Rescue Mission, The National Alliance on Mental Illness, Denver Chapter, or any Animal Rescue Shelter in his name. Rest Easy Big Man, shocked and sad when I heard the news. I enjoyed my time with you at JD and will now think of you as I fish in Montana. Until the flip side.

Tanner, I didn't know you, but read of your passing while reading the Post on 11/1. Wanted to leave a message, both for you and for my Dad & Mom from Chicago - and my grandparents as well: The Cubbies finally did it! I figure you and they all already know, but knowing how you felt - I just wanted to post this here. Blessings...

When we lose a Loved One, they become a memory. Then the memory becomes a treasure. Hold on to those treasures of your Loved One, they will help you during these difficult times. Isa.41:10

I only knew Tanner as an acquaintance but I worked with his Mother Valerie for many years as Air Traffic Controllers in Salt Lake City. I also know Tanners' Father, Pete, although we did not work in the same specialty as controllers at the Salt Lake Control Center. I know that Tanner and Delaney meant the world to them both. From having worked with Valerie so closely and because I know of her utmost love for both her children my heart can only ask our God above to bless her with a piece that I know only he can grant in such a difficult time. For his short time on this earth, I believe Tanner came to touch many lives for good. He would have had to convey his love for others that had been showered upon him from his parents and sister. So Valerie, when everyone has offered their condolences and the Celebration of Tanners Life is over and everyone has gone home and you are sitting alone on the edge of your bed hoping that when your head hits the pillow you might find some measure of rest and sleep, this is when I again beseech God above to bring you a peace that only he can give which may also fill your heart with the knowledge of Tanners goodness and of your own in bringing him into this world and raising such a fine son. God Bless. With Love, From your Friend Daniel Cook

My sincerest condolences. It must be so hard to suffer a tragedy like this. May "the God of all comfort" comfort you during this difficult time. James 1:13
