Allan Liebgott Obituary

Dr. Allan Richard Liebgott, born in Brooklyn, New York, August, 1944, died December 18, 2015 in his Littleton home. His family moved to Suburban Chicago in 1951. Allan graduated from Rich Township High School there in 1962. Following his 1966 graduation from Harvard, he attended Case Western Reserve Medical School. He married Susie Frey in 1968, and graduated from CWRU in 1970. His career path led him to the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, Arizona in 1972 and two years of Public Health Service. He joined Denver Health in 1975, remaining there until his retirement in 2007. Allan's zest for life was legendary. His passions included cooking, travel, baseball, photography, camping, golf, the arts, most specifically community theatre. He was a founder of The Main Street Players of Littleton and was elected its first president. On the Board of Directors of the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, he was honored by it for his contribution to community theatre. Allan was noted for his khaki trousers and jaunty bow ties. His generosity was marked by his total commitment to any project he supported and dedication to his friends. Youthful visitors to his home will recall his special Friday Night Pizzas. A beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Susie, daughters Robin Liebgott, Denver; Heather Nolan, California; granddaughters Andrea Liebgott, Denver; Melody, Lily and Juniper Nolan of California. Allan was preceded in death by his parents Alida and Marvin Liebgott and his brother Robert. A memorial service is planned in the spring.

The best doctor at Denver Health. Allan turned down the opportunity to be the CEO OF DENVER HEALTH TO MY MOST PUBLICIZED CHAGRIN. HE WAS A LEADER!

Allan graduated from Rich East High School in 1962. He was friendly, intelligent, humorous and attractive. Everybody liked him. At his 50th reunion there are pictures of him standing by an award for his achievements that is displayed near the high school office. He will be greatly missed.

My father was beyond a physician, he was a dedicated civil servant. He truly believed and lived the idea that healthcare is a right, not a privilege!

I will miss his positive approach towards life, and his generous spirit! He was always ready to entertain, and truly loved to celebrate. His creativity lives on in his children and grandchildren as we strive to embody his flare for elegance and perfection, his love of art and the theater.

Thank you for always believing in us.

You are loved and missed!

Allan had a significant role in the history of Community Health Services from which many staff and countless patients benefitted from his passion for providing care. Denver Health leaders are so much better off for his example of leading with his big heart.

Dr. Liebgott was my personal physician for many years. I always felt welcomed in his clinic and well cared for. I also worked with him on the design of the CCMF unit at Denver Health. He was always committed to providing the prisoners with the best level of care. He had a great sense of humor and I will miss him.

Allan embodied the spirit, science, and art of medicine. I was most fortunate to be a colleague at DHMC and to work with him when he was the internist for the former University of Colorado Davis Pavilion psychiatric inpatient unit. The photo is exactly how I remember him-as a smiling, pleasant, bright-eyed physician, always professional in his demeanor, known for his signature bowties and good humor. My condolences to all his family. To quote a sympathy card once given to me, "Where a beautiful soul has passed, a luminous glow remains."

Allan was a wonderful physician who was devoted to his patients. I had the great gift to work with him at the old Citycare clinic now LOP clinic, when I first came to Denver Health. I had the pleasure of working with him for 10 years until he retired. He was a warm and caring physician and superb colleague. His patients still remember him with great affection. We are so sad to hear of his passing and we send our sympathy to Susie and his family.

I had the joy of working with Allan for 20 years at Denver Health, including trying to fill his very large footprints as Medical Director of the Westside Health Center. We'd meet monthly for planning, and with his delightful humor he'd soon have us laughing no matter what the problems were. Dr. Liebgott was truly dedicated to improving the health of Denver's most underserved populations. He was a rare gift. My deep sympathy to Susie and the family.

Allen was a member of our Habitat for Humanity team in Delhi. We will never forget him in his red turban at our final dinner. It was so fun and pure Allen. His wonderful enthusiasm for life was infectious. He will be missed.
All our love to you Suzy.
