Betty Damerau Obituary
Betty Damerau, 81, died January 17th of pancreatic cancer. Betty Ruth Casida was born on November 29, 1932 in Madison, Wisconsin to Lester Earl and Ruth Casida. She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she majored in Natural Science Education while on a music scholarship. She married Robert Damerau on May 15, 1954 in Madison after meeting him at a square dance. They were married only days after Bob's return from serving in the Army in Korea. Betty and Bob moved to Lexington, Kentucky, then to Denver for Bob's City Planning jobs. Betty played the violin in the Denver Symphony/Colorado Symphony for 28 years while raising 3 children. She was an avid traveler along with her husband Bob and they visited over 100 countries together. Betty decorated the house with purchases from all over the world. She was a Denver Broncos fan and got to enjoy their recent playoff win. Betty volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital after she retired from the Symphony. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 59 1/2 years, Bob; three children, David Damerau of Denver, Annette Damerau Liu of Pittsburgh, and Karen Gleichauf (Bob) of San Antonio; and five grandchildren, Karla, Wyatt, and Marie Gleichauf, and Karina and Kevin Liu. She is also survived by her brothers, Earl Casida (Vicki) of State College, PA and John Casida (Kati) of Berkeley, CA. Betty loved greatly and was greatly loved. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25th, at 2:00pm in the Chapel in the Pines on the grounds of Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St., Denver, with a reception to follow. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of the Denver Hospice, where Betty spent her final week.
