Brendan Grainger Obituary

G rainger, Brendan Gregory of Lakewood, CO, formerly of Florissant, MO, died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. He was born in 1975 to Robert and Kathleen Grainger and was an agent of the Internal Revenue Service both in Denver and San Francisco. Brendan, 34, a graduate of the University of Kansas in accounting and business administration, was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Mavourneen Grainger (nee Harris). He is survived by his father, Robert and wife, Therese of Phippsburg, ME; brothers, Matthew of Kansas City, MO and Andrew and wife, Beth of Columbus, OH; sisters, Maureen and Kathryn of Denver; aunts, Eleanor (Sr. Consuelo) and Patricia Lotker and husband, Steve; uncles, William Grainger and Tom Harris and wife, Joanne; niece and nephew, Elise and Evan Grainger and cousins, Ruth Chandler, Elaine Dudevoir, Mark Lozier, Carol Coverdale, John Lozier, and David Lozier. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 25, 10-12 noon at Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion, 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO. Burial will be TBD at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Florissant, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions to DABC would be appreciated. Brendan was an avid sports fan and was looking forward to visiting Phippsburg, Maine this week, attending a Boston Red Sox game, and cooking lobster near the beach. He will be dearly missed.

Although I don't think I've seen Brendan since our graduation from grade school, I've never forgotten him. I was very sad to get the email about his passing from another classmate of ours. My thoughts and prayers are with Brendan and his family at this time of great loss!

Words bow in humility for their inability to express the heartfelt love that abounds for Brendan. His life was but a glimpse in the eye of eternity, but our lives have been changed by him forever.

To his dear family: I know that you were all in close contact with Brendan and had been a big part of his life...even up to the day before he passed. I am so grateful that you were there for him and for each other. Although my heart breaks for losing a very dear friend, I am comforted in knowing Brendan's life was happy and complete because of you. You are a great family, and families are forever.

Brendan and I spent endless nights watching, discussing, and debating sports for many years. The debating was primarily due to the KU/MU rilvary. He was always on the wrong side of the fence during those arguments :-) but I enjoyed every debate we had. He was a great sports enthusiast and that is what brought Brendan and I close. We did two Vegas trips together, one Fresno trip, and we hung out in San Fran at his first apartment in 2003. We always had fun together. My wife Debbie and I will miss him dearly. Unfortunately, I had not spoken to "B" (as we called him) in about 4 years. I called him the week we moved to CA to inform him that we now lived in the same state and he shocked me by saying he just moved to Denver the same week. B was a great guy! Very friendly and very dedicated to his work and family. I will miss him dearly.

Brendan was a very kind, generous, gentle and fiercely loyal person. I was fortunate to become friends with him when he moved to San Francisco. We remained in touch even once he moved. Brendan and I grew up together and shared an apartment soon after college, spending many evenings hanging out with friends and watching Cardinals and Blues games. Brendan will always be treasured for his unique friendship, his kindness, and sense of humor and will sorely be missed. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Brendan was a truly special person who cared a great deal about others. He was an outstanding co-worker and a great friend. His contributions to the low-income community of Denver through his volunteer work at the Denver Asset Building Coalition (DABC) were immense. I am still in such shock over the loss of Brendan. I have so many great memories of my childhood and most of them involve him. The Easter Egg hunts, games of Capture the Flag, sledding on the golf course, riding our bikes from morning until night during the summer... All of the Graingers' are very special to me and Brendan will be greatly missed. I am so sorry.

Brendan was a great guy. I enjoyed his sense of humor at KU. After our graduation we stayed in touch and I always looked forward to visitng with him, especially about sports. I was honored he was in my wedding. He will me missed.
