Ellen Cook of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully on July 11, 2013, just a few months shy of her ninetieth birthday. Ellen was born in Pennsylvania, the elder of two daughters of Harold and Lora Pine. She grew up in Pittsburgh before attending Pembroke College in R.I. There she met her future husband, Joe Cook. They were married in 1944 and eventually settled in Denver. While raising three children, Ellen was active in the community and with her circle of friends. She volunteered tirelessly at Head Start and the Bob Cook Memorial Mt. Evans Hillclimb bicycle race. She and Joe traveled extensively, including many trips in their Cessna 182. She was loved by all and will be very much missed. Ellen is survived by her sons, Joe Jr. (Sue) and Steven (Gaan), and two grandsons Dillon and Sam. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, sister Betty Ann and son Bob. A celebration of life will be held on July 23 at 10:00 am at Fairmount Mausoleum, 430 Quebec St., Denver. Contributions may be made to the National Head Start Association.
