Murray S. Hoffman, M.D., died peacefully on March 23. He was born in Denver on April 15, 1924, and attended East High School. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Denver in 1943, and his M.D. degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1947 where he graduated first in his class. He completed his medical residency at the University of Cincinnati followed by a Fellowship in Cardiology and Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During the Korean War, Dr. Hoffman served with the United States Public Health Service. Upon his return to Denver, he was in the private practice of cardiology for many years at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital, Rose Hospital and other private hospitals in Denver. Dr. Hoffman was Chief of Cardiology at National Jewish Hospital. In 1992 he closed his private practice and joined the faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as a Professor of Medicine and Cardiology. Maintaining his close ties with The Mayo Clinic, Dr. Hoffman was a founding member of The Doctors Mayo Society and served as president of the National Mayo Alumni Association. He also served as President of the Colorado Heart Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American College of Cardiology. He was the recipient of many honors and awards. An ardent world traveler and reader, he was able to maintain his quest for new knowledge until his death. Dr. Hoffman was a devoted family man who cherished time with his wife and children. Known for his gentleness and wisdom, he was a trusted doctor, loved by his patients, his immediate and extended family--including numerous nieces and nephews--and he will be missed by all. Services will be Monday, March 26, 2018, at 11 am at Temple Emanuel. Graveside service following at Temple Emanuel Section at Fairmount Cemetery. Today (10-9-2021) I learned of Murray's death. He was indeed a gentle soul who was not only wise but one who delighted in sharing his wide breath of knowledge. I adored Murray. I send my heart-felt condolences to Eric and all of his family. From the Psalms of David I would add, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints." Murray is with God now.

Dr Hoffman was such a wonderful man on so many levels and truly my biggest inspiration. He made me laugh, he made me contemplate life more deeply and he made me appreciate all that we have. Through the few short years I knew him, I never heard him complain about anything. He was simply a happy, peaceful person. I was lucky enough to spend Wednesdays and Fridays with him including lunches on Fridays. I treasured my Friday lunches with Murray. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
