Betty R. Hirsch

Obituary Condolences

passed away peacefully on April 12, 2014, at Aspen House Memory Care Center of Loveland, Colorado, where she was cared for with love and kindness. She was born to Kenneth and Ruth Curtis in Denver, Colorado, on August, 21, 1928, and was preceded in death by her husband Philip J. Hirsch in 2007. She is survived by their four children, Cathy (Marvin) Sprague of Platteville, Jacky Hirsch of Pueblo, Matt (Cindy) Hirsch of Lakewood, and Mark (Sande) Hirsch of Castle Rock, as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Betty graduated from Denver North High School, and from Denver University, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She and Phil were married in 1951 at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Denver. After living in Minneapolis, MN, and Bartlesville, OK, they settled and raised their family in La Junta, Colorado. They were active members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church as well as other community organizations. Betty logged countless hours during her children's youth attending their sporting events and other activities. She was an exceptional business teacher, head of the business department, and pep club sponsor at La Junta High School for many years and is still loved and remembered fondly by numerous students whose lives she touched. She and Phil moved to Longmont, CO, in 2005. Betty was an avid golfer, and she and Phil traveled often to golf tournaments with their many friends. She won numerous tournaments in La Junta as well as other locations. She was an excellent bridge player and for decades she and seven close friends enjoyed each other's company along with their regular bridge games. Betty also enjoyed swimming, tennis, snow-skiing, numerous spectator sports, playing the piano, reading, sewing, telling jokes and playing pranks, as well as crossword puzzles and word games, at which she was a pro. As Betty wished, private family services have been held. Cremation is being handled by Carroll-Lewellen Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are welcome at Aspen House Memory Care Center, 2212 E 11th St., Loveland, CO 80537 for continuing education for dementia care.
