Obituary Condolences

Robert (Bob) Harmon, 89, of Denver died March 18, 2010 from a recent illness. He was born March 20, 1920 in Aurora, Illinois to Charles and Emily Harmon. He graduated from East High School in Aurora and was awarded a scholarship to the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He graduated from there with honors as a fire protection engineer. He worked in the Panama Canal Zone prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Denver in l943 at Lowry Field as a flight engineer. After the war, Bob fell in love with Denver and decided to stay after being discharged in 1946. He married Patricia M. Smith in 1948. They divorced in 1972. He became manager of the Mountain States Inspection Bureau and retired from the Insurance Services Office in 1975 as regional manager. He was awarded the designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. Bob was proud of being a lifetime member of El Jebel Shriners of Denver and a 64 year Master Mason of Jerusalem Temple Lodge No. 90 of the State of Illinois. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in the Valley of Denver, Orient of Colorado. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, The Denver Athletic Club and a long time member of Evanston United Methodist Church. His hobbies included golf, bowling, reading, crosswords, opera arias and watching all sports. Later in life, some of his most enjoyable times were attending Denver Bronco and Colorado Rockies games or watching them play on television. He will be remembered as a supportive and loving father as well as a kind and generous man. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Richard. Bob is survived by his daughters, Judith Harmon Swafford (Patrick) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Linda Harmon of Fort Collins, Colorado, one granddaughter, Emily Richter (Luke) of Windsor, Colorado and one niece, Joan Walker of Highlands, Texas. Memorial Services will be at Fairmount Mortuary, Chapel in the Pines , 430 S. Quebec, Denver, on March 25, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers friends may contribute to the Denver Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 5206, Denver, Co, 80217-9613.
