Marie Margaret Rottler (nee Tanner)
Beloved Wife, Mother of Seven, Commissioner, Historian, Student, Teacher, Romantic, and Servant
Born Marie Tanner in St. Louis, MO, Marie Rottler attended Webster Groves High School, St. Louis University and Metropolitan State University of Denver. Mother of seven, grandmother of nine, and great grandmother of one, she was an avid learner, teacher and civic leader. In addition to her academic career, she served for 17 years appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission of Aurora, Colorado where she fought tirelessly and successfully for the preservation of both the historic Fitzsimmons Hospital building at the Colorado University School of Medicine Anschutz Medical Campus, and for Delaney Farm, site of the oldest extant barn structure of its kind in Colorado. She served as President and Past President of Aurora Business Women; Docent, Educator and Program Developer for the Aurora Natural History Museum; and editor of several books and newsletters on Colorado History. She worked actively with the Historic Georgetown, Inc. preservation group as a local historian as well as owner and award-winning restorer of the First Historic Hamill House at 300 Argentine Street, precursor to the present-day Hamill House at 305 Argentine Street in Georgetown, Colorado.
Marie is remembered and loved for the boundless passion she showed toward family and civic interests, as well as her love of learning, her service to family and community, and her unswerving, indomitable, and relentless determination in… everything.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, John Owen Rottler, and:
