Jason Ronald McMahan

1968 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Jason Ronald McMahan Obituary
McMahan, Jason Ronald
1968 ~ 2012
of Nederland, formerly of Boulder, died suddenly of natural causes April 12, 2012. He was 43.
A truly eclectic and engaged man of the world, his passion from an early age was art and architecture, especially the Italian Renaissance. But he didn't restrict himself to museums on his many trips to Europe; he'd go in search of quarries where Michelangelo found his marble or track down an obscure stone bridge or remote chapel. Traveling anywhere with Jason was an enlightening and enriching experience.
Jason deeply loved his dogs Woody, Arlo and Seeger. He had a profound sense of place all his life, and loved life in the mountains.
Jason was a truly remarkable man who lived life on his own terms and uniquely touched the lives of all those he met. He will be greatly missed.
Jason was born May 28, 1968 to Ronald Loren McMahan and Jane Howard McMahan in Boulder. He graduated from the September School in Boulder before attending the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, R.I.
A leading cartographer for the global energy industry, Jason was president and founder of Bolder Geographics from 2007 to the present. Prior to that he was president and founder of Boulder-based ENERmap, which he sold in 2003. He won numerous awards, and three of his maps were selected for the permanent collection at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
Jason is survived by his parents, of Boulder; a brother, Peter McMahan of Chicago; a sister, Rachel McMahan, her husband Mark Jarvis and their son Liam Jarvis of Denver; and his grandmother, Helen McMahan of Boulder.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Loren A. McMahan; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas R. McMahan and Elizabeth Howard McMahan.
The location and time of the Memorial Service will be announced at a later time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the September School, 1902 Walnut St., Boulder, CO 80302; the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, 2323 55th St., Boulder, CO 80301 or the , 1280 S. Parker Rd., Denver, CO 80231.
