Joseph (Joe) Halpern

1940 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences

Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from City College of New York and received a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts. He taught at the University of Denver and was Associate Director of the Denver Research Institute. He subsequently worked in a variety of positions in information technology for U S West, BEA Systems and Cap Gemini. During his retirement, he worked on aging issues, including serving as the President for the Association of US West Retirees for Colorado and Wyoming, a Commissioner for the Mayor's Commission of Aging, the Advisory Board of RSVP/ Volunteers of America and The Denver Regional Council of Governments Advisory Committee on Aging.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Alma Esther Lantz; brother Irving Marvin Halpern; daughters, Michelle Irene Halpern and Deborah Renee Milne (Steve); two grandchildren: Jack Andrew Milne and Sarah Alexis Milne; and his beloved cat Simba. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday February 9 at 3 PM at First Universalist Church, 4101 E. Hampden Ave., Denver. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Denver Hospice, 501 S. Cherry Street, Denver 80246 or to First Universalist Church of Denver, 4101 E. Hampden Avenue, Denver 80222.
