Donald Francis Shearn Obituary
Our dear Father left this life and entered into Christ's care on the evening of April 29, 2014. As his fortunate children, Don Jr, (Mary Ellen), Christina, Kevin (Wendy) and Colin (Alisabeth) Shearn, we rejoice in the fact that his final years were full of joy and good health. He was preceded in death by our mother, Catherine (nee Ransom) Tina Shearn. Dad, (Dr. Shearn) was born in Groton, South Dakota to Francis and Bertha Shearn. Following the birth of his brother, Robert, the family moved to Stockton, California. After serving in the Army for two years he attended the University of Pacific where he received his Bachelors Degree followed by a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. As a Child Psychologist, and school counselor he unselfishly gave of himself to countless elementary school children for over 35 years. Dad met and married our Mother while both were teaching for the Department of Defense overseas. They had their first of two sets of twins in Ankara, Turkey and their second in Misawa, Japan. Moving to United States in 1976 they built their dream home in Evergreen, Colorado where they relocated in 1977. Both Dad and Mom retired from the Jefferson County Public School System. Their retirement was full of family, friends, softball, tennis and travel. Following Mom's death in 2005, Dad rekindled a relationship with Pauline Sampson whom he had met in the 1950's. She became his loving companion for the next 9 years. He is survived by his 4 children and 9 wonderful grandchildren: Ashleigh Monteil (Oscar), Chelsea Armbrust, Frankie, Abby, Andrew, Mia, Katrina, Tucker and Brynn Shearn. His first great-grandchild Oscar Monteil was born in 2012. "Gapa" was an active and loving participant in their and our lives. A Funeral Mass in honor of his life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Littleton CO. An OPEN HOUSE to celebrate his life will be held from 5 until 10 pm May 23, 2014 at a family home. Donations in his memory can be made to the DonorAlliance.org.
