Marc Lunde Obituary

On the evening of August 12, 2016, Marc, age 61, of Denver passed away peacefully at his home. Born in Montgomery, Ala., Marc grew up in McLean, Va. before heading west on a cross-country road trip that brought him to Colorado. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Marc met his wife, Laura McFarlane, while on a run in Washington Park in Denver. They enjoyed thirty wonderful years of marriage while raising two beloved children, Julia and Aidan Lunde. Proudly referring to himself as a family man, Marc was a dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed an active lifestyle of tennis, golfing, mountain biking, skiing, hiking and camping. Marc had a long, fulfilling career in commercial real estate brokerage and was a highly valued partner at Avison Young in Denver. Outgoing, with a positive outlook, Marc never missed an opportunity to smile. Throughout his life he was a devoted friend and inspiring mentor. Marc was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Oswald Lunde and Anne Potts Lunde, of McLean, Va. He is survived by his wife, Laura McFarlane Lunde, his children, Julia and Aidan Lunde. Marc's siblings, Eric (Barbie) Lunde of Bluffton, S.C., Rosalind (Dick) Nearing of McLean, Va., Susan (Charles) Minnick of Arlington, Va. and John (Jennifer) Lunde of McLean, Va. Special thanks to the staff at the University of Colorado Cancer Center-Anschutz for their unparalleled care. A Celebration of Life will be held in Denver on Sept. 10th. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donation are sent in Marc's name to Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado and the Colorado Mountain Club.

I just read notice of Marc's death in the UNC Alumni magazine. My heart is broken to know of his untimely death, at such a young age. I was so privileged, honored, and flattered to know Marc through his wife, Laura. He was truly one of the best ,,,, and only Laura would know and understand how much I loved him too. He was always, always upbeat, happy, jovial, and a great sense of humor. So what if we messed up his sock drawer and closet, he still laughed at us, once he finished yelling (at me!). My deepest sympathy to Laura and Marc's children and family. I can't imagine how great their loss must feel, even months later. Rest in peace Marc, we all loved you!

Marc was a really terrific guy- friendly, outgoing, smart and competent. He was instrumental in finding a new location for our college, and we could not have made it work without his knowledge and expertise. I can't say enough good things about Marc. He will be greatly missed, and may he now rest in peace. Steve Steele

Marc loved to maintain and repair old Porsches and Volkswagens. Many decades ago, I had acquired a VW camper/transporter only to have the engine develop serious valve trouble. Marc advised me of the need to re-adjust the valves every six months.
My genuine condolences to his wife and family. For now he is present with the Lord. "For we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord" -2 Corinthians 5:8.
