Funeral services for Charles Lee Shirley, 71, of DeRidder, will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 12 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of DeRidder. Ministers officiating will be Revs. Alan Knuckles and Danny Wilson. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, DeRidder, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder. Charles passed from this life on Oct. 9, 2013, in Lake Charles.
Visitation will begin from 6-9 p.m. on Oct. 11, and from 1 p.m. on Oct. 12 until the time of services, all at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in DeRidder.
Survivors include his wife, Henda Hines Shirley of DeRidder; three daughters, Robin Bedgood and husband Jamie of Singer, Cara Shirley Barron and fiancé Clay of Silsbee, Texas, and Leigh Richmond and husband Wikie of Hornbeck; one brother, William Earl Shirley, Jr. and wife Bobbie of Cecilia; one sister, Gayle Sadden and husband Deen of DeRidder; and six grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Crowder Shirley and William Earl Shirley, Sr.
Charles was born on June 3, 1942 to Gladys and William Shirley in Sugartown, where he lived most of his life before moving to DeRidder during his high school years. He was a retired schoolteacher
, teaching at Ragley High School, DeRidder High School and his last 20 years at South Beauregard High School. He was a U.S. Army
veteran where he was a Chaplain's Assistant while stationed in Germany. Charles was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon.
