Ned, in his typical jovial, happy style, went to Heaven on Nov. 27, 2013. Although only 70 years old, Ned lived a full, adventurous life. Born in Fort Knox, he grew up in DeRidder. An avid Boy Scout and dedicated acolyte in Trinity Episcopal Church, his proud accomplishments during high school were receiving his God and Country award, becoming an Eagle Scout and attending the National Jamboree in Valley Forge and New York City. Ned served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and developed a lifetime devotion to the military. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from UM, he worked as a defense contractor in California, Saudi Arabia, Arizona, Florida and Kentucky.

Ned's favorite things include his cherished partner, Patty Engstrom; his best buddies, B. J., Wally, and Jack; LSU; AA support; his favorite cousins, Maurice, A. J., Lilchy, and Ray; his forever friends Vida Rae and Carolyn Cartledge; and his loving family, daughter Heather, son-in-law Shawn Lupold, granddaughters, Grace and Erin, his sister Jane and brother-in-law Royce Hunsucker.
Ned was the beloved son of the late Wylma LaCaze Jackson and the late Edward Randolph Jackson. His dear godmother and aunt JoElla LaCaze Orrill Iles predeceased him.
Ned's service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Ky. Patty and his family will host a celebration of Ned's life afterwards at Patty's and his home. Memorials may be made to the USO or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
