Funeral services for Betty R. Blakeney, 64, of DeRidder, Louisiana, will be held at 10 A.M.,  Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder with Rev. George Lee Glass and Dr. Henry S. Carter officiating.  Burial will follow in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.  Visitation will be from 5 P. M. until 8:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 23, 2010, and from 9 A.M. until 10 A.M., Wednesday, November 24, 2010, in the funeral home. Betty passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010, in Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder.
           Betty was born in Midland, Texas, where she attended and graduated from Midland High School.  She was a Candy Striper in the Midland Hospital for six years, from the eighth through twelfth grade.  Following high school, she attended and graduated from Abilene Christian College.  She then attended and graduated with her RN Degree from Methodist Nursing School in Lubbock, Texas.  She then moved to El Paso, Texas, where she worked for eight months and met her husband of forty-one years, Benton R. Blakeney.  Betty later moved to Lauren, MS, and worked for Jones County Community Hospital where she was an ER Supervisor.  She was also employed at the Indian Hospital on the Navaho Indian Reservation in Arizona where she was a floor supervisor.  Betty continued in her career as a nurse working as an RN in the Beauregard Parish Public Health Unit in DeRidder for twenty-eight years.  After retiring, she then volunteered her services and was the Head/Charge Nurse for the Agape Clinic in DeRidder and also served on the Board of Directors for the clinic since its inception for the past five years.
Betty is survived by her husband of forty-one years, Benton R. Blakeney of DeRidder; daughter, Christy B. Anderson and husband Ed of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Ann Malone of Austin, TX; and granddaughter, Mary Helen Anderson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Opal(Cozart) Warren, and brother, Don Warren.  Betty's family requests donations be made to the Agape Clinic in DeRidder, Louisiana.
