James Hill Obituary

1932 ~ 2012
James Fredrick Hill passed away on March 22, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 79 from complications associated with aging.
Jim was born October 21, 1932 in McGill, Nevada to Oscar and Margaret Gunnode Hill. Jim grew up in McGill, attended McGill Grade School and White Pine High School, where he lettered in basketball and baseball. He was a member of McGill's powerhouse American Legion baseball teams in the 40's, including the State Championship team of 1947 coached by his father.
He attended Utah State University on a baseball scholarship for one year before being drafted into the U.S. Army for the Korean War. Jim was stationed in Japan for two years and discharged in 1955; he returned to McGill and married Shirley Jean Bennett on June 25, 1956 in Elko, Nevada. Jim worked for Kennecott briefly before returning to Utah State to complete his degree, graduating in 1960. Upon graduation Jim and Shirley returned to McGill where he resumed working for Kennecott as a cost accountant. He transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah with Kennecott in 1978 and ultimately retired from Kennecott in 1994 after 44 years of service.
Jim and Shirley spent winters the past 15 years in Gold Canyon, Arizona enjoying their retirement, surrounded by friends, many from Nevada. Jim enjoyed, golfing, fishing, hunting, all outdoor activities and most any sport. If you knew him, you know he never sat still for long and was always finding something to engage himself in and someone to help.
Jim is survived by his Wife of 55 years Shirley; one Brother Richard (Fay) Hill Sacramento, California; one son Mike (Tamra) Hill and their two sons Zachary and Nicholas, Boise, Idaho and one daughter Sue (Jim) Goodrich and their three sons Kyle, Bryan and Adam, South Jordan, Utah.
Graveside Services will be held at the Ely Nevada Cemetery at 10a.m. on July 2nd with a luncheon following, location TBD. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the White Pine Chapter of American Legion, Post 3, P.O. Box 1289, McGill, NV 89318 or a charity of your choice in Jim's name.
