1936 ~ 2014
Marré Hollingsworth Chamberlain, resident of Kanab, Utah, departed from us early on the morning of January 3rd, 2014 after a lengthy illness. She was 77 years old at the time of her death.
Marré is remembered as one of the kindest, most loving, thoughtful, patient and gentle souls ever to grace planet Earth. She is dearly missed by her four surviving sons, numerous grandchildren, surviving brothers and sister and husband.
Marré was born in Oakley, Idaho on February 4th, 1936, the second child of Marsh Thomas and Wanda Harper Hollingsworth. She was a graduate of Pocatello High School in Pocatello, Idaho and also attended Idaho State University where she studied nursing.
While working in Salt Lake City, Marré was introduced to Von Del Chamberlain who was studying Physics at the University of Utah. After a brief courtship the couple married in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple on August 9th 1957. Their earthly union remained strong for the remainder of her life, more than 56 years. A son, Marsh Edward, was born to the couple on June 24th 1958 at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. A second son, Blake Von Chamberlain arrived on the 23rd of May 1960 in Ann Arbor, Michigan where the family had moved to further Von Del's education. The family moved to Flint, Michigan where Von Del accepted the position of Staff Astronomer at the Robert T. Longway Planetarium. During that time two more sons were born to the couple: Drew Fen on the 10th of January 1962 and Ven Cameron on the 18th of July 1964. In the fall of 1964 the growing family moved again to accept employment at Michigan State University, living outside the town of Williamston Michigan. Early the next year Ven's life was taken in a tragic automobile collision. The accident left Marré in critical condition with injuries that plagued her the rest of her life. A fifth and final son, Brent Avery, was born on January 4th, 1967. In 1973 the family moved to Herndon, Virginia where Von Del accepted a position at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. During their eleven years in the Nation's capital, the couple was introduced to high-ranking government officials, leading scientists, aviation pioneers, astronauts, and a variety of celebrities. One of Marré's fond memories is when Neil Armstrong, first man to set foot on the moon, recalled meeting Marré several years earlier. The family matured during this time with children leaving and returning from LDS missions and educational pursuits. Marré also cultivated many deep and lasting friendships with people in the local LDS ward and surrounding area, many of which continue to this day.
Marré and Von Del returned to Salt Lake City in the spring of 1984 to preside over a maturing family. Several of the son's married, began and extended careers and had children of their own. Finally, in 2004 the couple moved to the red hills of Kanab, Utah where Von Del was born.
Marré travelled extensively, exploring national parks and accompanying her husband to international conferences and ocean and river cruises. Always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marré served in various positions of trust. Most recently in the Kanab 7th Ward where she faithfully made sure the library was ready and available to teachers, students and others. Throughout her life she excelled in arts and crafts and loved to volunteer for whatever service needs she found. During her last few years she volunteered at the Kanab Thrift Store, which existed to provide funds for the Kane County Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, sister Sherri McInelly (Richard), brothers Dirk (Kris) and Brad (Debra) Hollingsworth, children Marsh, Blake (Karen), Drew (Diana), Brent, fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren with another expected soon. Marré was preceded in death by her mother Wanda, father Marsh, brother Tylon, sister Sandra Mullenix (Bill) and son Ven Cameron.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday 11 January 2014 at the Kanab South Chapel, 604 S. 100 E., at 11:00 a.m. with viewing from 9:45 to 10:45 and on the previous evening at the Mosdell Mortuary from 6 to 7 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Thrift Shop of Kane County Hospital Auxiliary located at 41 S. 100 E., Kanab, UT telephone (435) 644-8175.

Fond memories of the Chamberlains. Wonderful, wonderful obituary. Thanks for your friendship during the 20 years in SLC, that in retrospect seems like they flew by. Marre was special, only equaled by her husband. Comforting to know families are forever; perhaps friendships, too. Love and condolences,

It's been many years, but I remember going to Mrs. Chamberlain's house after school to do craft projects when I was in elementary school in Williamston, MI. I can't remember if it was for 4-H or for Brownies, but I often think about one of the projects that we did making pictures out of macaroni and then spray painting them gold. Not sure why I remember that, but it definitely left an impression for some reason. Rest in peace Marre. From what I can remember you were a great craft teacher. I also rode the bus with Marsh and Blake and remember them well. Peace be to you all.

Dear Von Del
We remember with fondness the time we spent together in the Sterling Park Ward. Marre organized a craft group that our children enjoyed. We are thankful for her sweet influence in our lives while both our families were raising young children.

I used to live across the street from the Hollongsworth family. Our family name is Tanner. I missed Sandra's death entirely. I don't know why. Sympathetic thoughts are going to your families.
