Jay Reed West
1936 ~ 2013
Jay Reed West (Uncle Jay), age 77 of Layton, Utah, passed away October 15, 2013. He was born October 5, 1936 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the son of James Reed and Rheuama Allan West. He attended school in Spanish Fork. He received his B.S. degree at Utah State University. He attended the University of Washington and received his Doctor of Dentistry degree. He also served on the faculty of the School of Dentistry while there. He met his sweetheart, Lorraine Murphy while attending the University of Washington. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1961. He earned his degree in orthodontics at Northwestern University in Chicago. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in White Sands, New Mexico. He set up his orthodontics practice in Clearfield, Utah. He retired in 1990. He spent his retirement traveling several times to Europe on the "Concord" jet where he developed long-time friendships while traveling. He researched and authored a book "From East to West", a history and genealogy of the West Family. He was a dedicated husband to his wife, Lorraine, during her years of illness. She passed away September 26, 2010. The family will miss getting together at Thanksgiving, Christmas and reunions and sharing an occasional steak dinner.
Jay is survived by his siblings, Elaine (Kenneth) Burnham, Dee Wayne (Beverly) West, Bud Allan (Joyce) West, Colleen (Jeffrey) Abbott, Blair James (Kate) West, Merril W. (Julie) West, and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Murphy West, his parents, James Reed and Rheuama Allan West, and his brother Gary Lynn West. The family would like to thank his wonderful friends and neighbors for their love and concern for Jay and Lorraine. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, nieces and nephews, and many friends. We love you, Jay.
