Norma Jean Austin, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in her Bountiful, Utah home on Sunday, April 27, 2014, after a struggle with breast cancer. She was born on March 11, 1929 in Montpelier, ID to William Clarence Grandy and Mary Viola Bridges. She was raised in Bear Lake County, ID, graduating as valedictorian of Montpelier High School. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Utah State University. She married her high school sweetheart, Lynn Matthews Austin, in the Logan LDS Temple on August 30, 1950. As a result of her husband's career with the Boy Scouts of America, they raised their six children in various parts of the country, including Ogden, UT; Redwood City, CA; Roy, UT; Bountiful, UT; Olmsted Township, OH; and Fremont, CA. They retired in Bountiful. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as president of every auxiliary organization and in many other capacities. She and Lynn served a mission for the LDS Church at the Oakland, CA Family History Library 1990-1992. Her love of family history continued throughout her life. She indexed genealogical records for the Church, completing more than 200,000 records. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She lovingly cared for her husband through his 17-year battle with Parkinson's Disease until his death in 2002. In her home, there was always a ballgame on the TV, a jigsaw puzzle on the table, and cookies in the orange cookie jar. Mom's greatest love was her family, and her door was always open.
She is survived by four daughters, Terry (Craig) Stapley, Kearns, UT; Billie (Scott) Allred, Bountiful, UT; Lorraine Austin, Salt Lake City, UT; Kim Austin, Bountiful, UT; two sons, Kevin (Rebekka) Austin, Tracy, CA; Trevor (Kimberly) Austin, Bountiful, UT; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren with two more on the way. Also survived by a sister, Evelyn Young, Buena Park, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Willard Clarence Grandy and Carl Rulon Grandy; a granddaughter, Lynette Austin Stapley; and a great grandson, Adam Jared Wrigley.

We met Norma Jean and Lynn in the mid seventies when Trevor and our son, Tom, were good friends and played sports together. Norma was always positive, supportive, and the most enthusiastic fan in the bleachers, while she diligently recorded each play on her score sheet. Our memories of her are all happy ones.
We hold each of you in our thoughts now, and know she will be missed by many.

I have known her for a long time. She will be missed. She has left a great legacy my goodness. She was always happy and asked about my kids and what they were up to. Save a place for me Norma Jean!!! She left big shoes to fill.

Truly sorry for your loss. Aunt Norma Jean was and is a great lady. She always remembered my birthday, sent a card with a note ... and I suspect she did this with many, many others. She was a sweetheart to a dear uncle and brought much joy to his life. Now they are reunited for Eternity.
May the Lord be with each of you in this time of grieving. Love, Eric, Jeanne & Family

We lived next door to Norma and Lynn for several years in Bountiful - they were wonderful neighbors, and Terry and Billie were great babysitters for us. Norma was always there when I needed help, and offered great solutions to predicaments I found myself in at times. Sounds like their lives were amazing. Sorry for your loss.

Dear Austin Family,
How I have loved your mother through all the years from our childhood in Montpelier to now! We have kept in touch all this time. I moved to Salt lake city when I was 13, but we have contacted each other ever since. Then Grant and I had a great association with Norma Jean & Lynn when they lived in Ogden, etc. with his Scouting. There are no friends like "old" friends. I regret not being there for her funeral, but I remarried 2 1/2 years ago to a very dear friend who had lost his wife, and we spend part of our time in my home in Taylorsville, UT, and part in Apple Valley, CA. That is where we are at the present time.
The comfort of all of this is that your mother and father can be together now for all Eternity. How wonderful!! Such special people!
I send my love and comfort to all of you!
