1950 ~ 2013
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, teacher and friend passed away on January 31, 2013. Bienvenido, also affectionately known as "Bien", was born in Manila, Philippines on June 14, 1950, to Florencio and Josefina Flores.
Bien was accepted to BYU-Hawaii for his collegiate studies in 1968. While in Hawaii, he accepted an LDS mission call to return to his home country of the Philippines for two years. After completing his mission, he went back to BYU-Hawaii to continue his studies. It was at this time he met his eternal companion. On August 10, 1972, Bien was sealed for time and all eternity to Luzviminda "Luz" Ferrer in the Laie, Hawaii LDS Temple.
During their 40 years of marriage, Bien and Luz were blessed with four sons, one daughter, three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law and eight grandchildren. Bien was a devoted family man and cherished each member of his family. He was at his happiest when he spent quality time with them.
Bien graduated in business management from BYU-Hawaii in 1975. He then accepted employment with the Church Educational System (CES) in the Philippines. In his tenure of 13 years, he held the positions of CES Regional, Multi-Regional, Associate and Area Director. Bien also served many ecclesiastical callings; Branch President, District and Stake President, Regional Representative and Mission President for the Cagayan de Oro, Philippines mission. When the first temple in the Philippines was erected in Manila, he became one of the first temple ordinance workers. Through these callings and other community associations, Bien influenced countless individuals for good and developed eternal bonds of friendship.
After his career in the Philippines, Bien obtained his master's degree in educational leadership from BYU-Provo in 1996. He was employed with Carbon County School District for 13 years and Jordan School District for six years. His students enjoyed his sense of humor and enthusiasm for teaching. Bien fulfilled his lifelong dream of educating young minds.
The family would like to thank all of those who provided Bien with medical and personal care prior to his passing, especially Dr. Scott Samuelson and the staff at Utah Cancer Specialists. Bien is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
