Hideo Morinaka

Hideo Morinaka passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Salt Lake City at the age of 88. He was born on January 7, 1924 to Kotaro and Tono Morinaka in Brigham City, Utah.
He married Masako Ikegami on January 7, 1948 in Brigham City, Utah and was a loving husband for over 64 years, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Hideo was a veteran of WWII and served the US Army in Germany, France and Belgium. After moving to Salt Lake City, Hideo attended Salt Lake Area Vocational School and received his certificate in auto mechanics. He then began his career at Tooele Army Depot where he retired after 30 years of service.
Besides his family, Hideo loved fishing, hunting, caring for his vegetable garden, bowling and never turning down an opportunity to go to Las Vegas or Wendover. Hideo also enjoyed traveling the world with Masako and their family.
For over 42 years, Hideo was a proud and active member of the Rose Park Lions Club and served as President from 1976-1977.
Hideo is survived by sons: Glen (Elizabeth) and Mickey (Gina); grandchildren: Laura (Brian) Santo and Drake; great-grandchild: Natalie; sister Ruth Sugimoto, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Myrna Ishida, Sumi Ishida, Davis and Yoshiko Oda, Yaeko Ikegami, Yutako Ikegami, Takashi Ikegami, Ken and Kathy Ikegami, Takako Ikegami, Setsuo Takenaka and Patricia Ikegami, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers and sisters: Noble (Cora) Morinaka, James (Mary) Morinaka, Maude (Ralph) Ishida, Ted (Terri) Morinaka, Kay Ishida, Tom Ishida, and Tilly (Howard) Watanabe.
A viewing will be held at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday January 11, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Larkin Mortuary on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the homecare nurses and CNAs for their excellent care, kindness and support they gave to Hideo every day.
