Jay D. Ridd

July 22, 1924 ~ June 17, 2013
Jay D. Ridd passed away peacefully June 17, 2013, in Salt Lake City after a short battle with melanoma. He was born on July 22, 1924, in Brigham City to Roland Hillier and Hortense Holland Ridd. He was raised in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1942.
Jay served in the United States Army first being assigned to the Commanding General of the Army Ground Forces. He worked at the Pentagon in Washington DC, the South Pacific and Okinawa where after only a few weeks he was severely wounded. Jay received the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge and was Honorably Discharged from the Army in 1945.
After returning to Utah, Jay enrolled at the University of Utah and spent his summers during college working as a manager at Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. Jay received a Bachelor of Education in 1950 and Master of Education in 1954. During his thirty-six years with the Granite School District, he taught history before working as an Assistant Principal at Olympus, Skyline and Cottonwood High Schools. After retiring he enjoyed the company of his friends and family who all will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Mildred Ridd Koltinsky, Princeton, Kentucky; seven nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Roland William Ridd, his younger sister Helen Ridd Young and brother-in-law Darwin Leo Young.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 21, 2013, at Noon at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City. Friends may call from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded.
