Kenneth "Jack" Olsen

Kenneth "Jack" Olsen
June 22, 1925 ~ March 31, 2013
Kenneth Jack Olsen, loving and appreciated husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.
He was born June 22, 1925 to Andrew and Marie Nielsen Olsen. He was the youngest of seven children and his mother's pride and joy.
Jack married Jessie Francom on February 28, 1946; later divorced. He married Carolyn McArthur on January 30, 1965, later solemnized in the Manti Temple.
He was always proud of his service to his country during World War II. He earned two purple hearts after being wounded twice on the front line on the French-German border.
Flying was his passion. He and his brother Don jointly owned two airplanes, and he told numerous engaging stories of his flying experiences. Jack's adventurous spirit and love of flying led to his service doing search and rescue for the Civil Air Patrol.
Sharing stories around a campfire with his sons and extended family was the best part of the annual deer hunts. He was always a hard worker. He started working at age 13 for local farmers and held many various jobs in his life, including owning and operating a gas station, being a professional photographer and working as a detective for Deseret Detective Agency. However, the majority of his employment was with Kennecott Copper, where he spent 38 years, most of these as a furnaceman in the refinery.
His greatest pride and enjoyment was his family. He leaves behind his wife Carolyn, Highland, UT; children: Bonnie (Larry) Sowby, Magna, UT; Connie (Ed) Livingston, West Jordan, UT; Jack (Chris) Olsen, South Jordan, UT; David (Dawna) Olsen, West Jordan, UT; DeAnn (Ron) Carter, West Jordan, UT; Jaclyn Olsen, Highland, UT; Brent (Jill) Olsen, Hanford, CA; 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and three great grandchildren en route.
He was preceded in death by one son (Larry), his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Highland 31st Ward Chapel, 11162 N. Alpine Hwy. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral at the church. Graveside services will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, UT at 3 p.m.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Von Welch, along with Intermountain Hospice, for the loving care they provided during Jack's final weeks.
