Maude Bentley Broadbent

1923 ~ 2013
Maude Broadbent, 90, passed away in her home in Holladay, Utah on July 31, 2013, surrounded by her children and other family members.
She was born on January 29, 1923 in St. George, Utah to William Oscar and Hettie Sullivan Bentley. She was the fifth of six children. She was raised in St. George and graduated from Dixie College. She met David Clay Broadbent in Los Angeles while he was undergoing training as a Navy pilot. They were married in the LDS St. George Temple on July 12, 1946. They soon moved to El Centro, California, where Clay started a ranching business with his brother Jay. Their many friends in the Imperial Valley became like family to them and their four children, Susan, Elaine, David and Julie.
Following Clay's death in 1962, she moved to Salt Lake City so she and her children could be near their Broadbent and Bentley grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The gospel of Jesus Christ and family were the chief cornerstones of her life. Her faith, charity and positive outlook inspired her family and friends. She was a wonderfully caring person with a witty and fun sense of humor. Maude lived a life of quiet, dedicated service. Many were blessed by loaves of homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and other delicious expressions of love and concern. She saw good in everyone she met and made them feel loved and respected. Her service in the LDS Church included callings as Relief Society president and Primary president, as a stake missionary and as a hostess at the Beehive House. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Maude married Reed M. Broadbent in 1988 and moved to Logan, Utah. This added our dear Uncle Reed and our Logan cousins, Lee, Steve and Neff, and their families to the immediate family. Maude and Uncle Reed enjoyed wonderful years together, including missionary service in New York City and Mesa, Arizona, where Reed was director of the LDS visitor centers.
She is survived by her children, Susan Tate (Ralph), Elaine Tschaggeny (Stanley), David K. Broadbent (Katherine), son-in-law Russell Smith (Shannon), and Reed's children, Lee S. Broadbent (Deann), Steven R. Broadbent, (Janet), G. Neff Broadbent (Denese), 31 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husbands, Clay and Reed, and daughter Julie Broadbent Smith.
