Feb. 2, 1926 ~ March 16, 2013
Ruth Karen Jacobsen Campbell, age 87 of Payson, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 after a short battle of complications from cancer.
She was born February 2, 1926 in Onsoy, Norway to Johan Anton and Maren Olava Hansen Jacobsen.
She survived World War II in Norway. She also completed Business School in Norway. She came to the United States when she was 19 and worked as a bookkeeper for a bank in Seattle, Washington. There she met Leslie Hazelton Campbell and they were married after a 2 year courtship when she was 23, on Leslie's birthday, October 19, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Her family, that included 9 children, was her most important work. She deeply loved all of her family; those that came before, and those that followed after. She served in numerous church callings, her favorite being in the Primary Presidency. She served a mission with her husband to Norway. Ruth was a great story teller and she wrote many of her inspirational stories in her "Book of Life" and when she finished that project, she wrote the stories of her husband's life. Ruth felt a deep sense of gratitude for everything that was done for her throughout her life.
Survivors include: her children, Rose-Mary (Mark) Wiebold, Fairbanks, Alaska; Dennis (Pam) Campbell, Beaufort, North Carolina; Eileen (Byron) Miller, Provo, Utah; Dolores Holder, Payson, Utah; Leslie, Jr. (Penny) Campbell; Anchorage, Alaska; Bruce (deceased) (Susan) Campbell, Mapleton, Utah; Sylvia (Paul) Stefan, North Pole, Alaska; Gilbert (Kristi) Campbell, Palmer, Alaska; Lilly (Bill) Simpson, Apple Valley, Utah; 48 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her siblings, Erling (Margaret) Jacobsen and Harry (Else) Jacobsen, all of Washington and Mary Campbell of Payson, Utah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; siblings, Annie, Johnny, and Hansina Lillian.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 21, 2013, 11:00 a.m. in the Spring Lake 5th Ward Chapel, 546 West 1750 South, Payson, Utah. A viewing will be held for friends and family at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah, Wednesday, March 20th, 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church, Thursday, March 21st, 9:30-10:40 a.m. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
The family would like to express appreciation to Mountain View Hospital, Parkway Health Center, all who have cared for her, and also members of the Spring Lake 5th Ward for their compassionate service.
Her children are eternally grateful for all of her sacrifices. Her love will run forever deep in our hearts.
