Our beloved husband, father,grandfather and great-grandfather William L. Gibbs, 85, passed away after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 29, 1928 in Boise, ID to Earl and Mabel Gibbs. He married Marie Webb on September 22, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. Marie preceded him in death February 10, 1989. He married Linda Rae Lee on June 14, 1990, sealed in the Provo Temple in 1993.
William (Bill) graduated from Vale High School, joining the United States Coast Guard
after graduation. He went on to work for the Vacaville Police Department, before joining the California Highway Patrol in 1955. Bill completed his education at Long Beach State University while working his way through the ranks eventually becoming Captain of Fresno County Area in 1970. Bill retired from the California Highway Patrol in 1978. From 1982 to 1994 Bill served as Lehi City Chief of Police and then from 1994 to 1998 he served as Mayor of Lehi, Utah.
In his early life he was a great athlete lettering in football, track and boxing, he also rode bulls. Later in life besides spending time with family, he immensely enjoyed riding horses along with life's simple pleasures such as reading, gardening, serving the public and attending to his church callings.
He is survived by his wife Linda, his sons Earl (Elizabeth) Gibbs, son Bill Gibbs, daughter Mari (Randy) Reed, son Lee (Nina) Pace and Rod Farnsworth, 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel located at 2300 West Gray's Drive, Lehi, Utah. A viewing will be held Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery. Military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars
