KATHLEEN EDWARDS Obituary

Kathleen Harrington Edwards 1946 ~ 2010 Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister peacefully passed away on December 23, 2010 in Salt Lake City from complications due to cancer.Kathy was born May 22, 1946, in Honolulu as the oldest child of LaRee Hymas and William Francis Harrington. Shortly after she was born, her parents moved to Salt Lake where she was raised in their East Millcreek home. A highlight of her youth was spending summers with her family at her grandparents' farm in Bear Lake, Idaho. After graduating from the second graduating class of Skyline High School she attended Brigham Young University where she received her B.A. in Education. She loved children and teaching both at school and in the home. From childhood through college her life was full of friends, time spent with her brother and sisters, and active involvement in many school and church activities. She and her husband, Bill Edwards, lived a beautiful life together which began on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. They quickly fell in love and were married by President Spencer W. Kimball in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1970. Kathy's life was shaped by and centered around the things she loved; this included her family, many dear friends, teaching, service and an abiding faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Kathy and Bill have four children: Rebecca (Tom), David (Jill), Jennifer (Mike) and Billy. She is also survived by her brother, Bob Harrington (Jane), and two sisters, Suzanne Harman (Rich) and Becky Harrington. Kathy delighted in and took a special interest in each member of her family, which includes 14 grandchildren ages 1 to 15. Whether it was visiting with a long-time friend or befriending a stranger, Kathy loved spending time with people and had a unique gift of making others feel appreciated. Her cheerfulness, optimism and kind heart blessed the lives of those around her. She also loved creating beautiful things. Everything she did was done thoughtfully and with care. She created a nurturing, loving home and lifted people in her presence. She leaves behind to her family the knowledge that she truly loved them and the Lord's Gospel. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, December 30, at the Mt. Olympus North LDS Chapel, 4176 Adonis Drive (3930 East) in Salt Lake City. Viewings will be held Wed. 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. and Thursday 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the chapel prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Dear Edwards family,
Only today did we hear of Kathleen's passing. Our hearts are breaking to learn the news. My mother, Ann White, is also a patient at the Huntsman Center, stricken with multiple myeloma. My mother started treatment just one week before Kathleen. They quickly became friends, as they battled treatment together, commiserated, talked, encouraged, buoyed up, loved and fellowshipped one another, and seemed to find a common bond and sisterhood, since they were so close in age, and suffered the same ailment. Often they were even hospitalized at the same time. Kathleen is very dear to my mother. I remember Kathleen's beautiful smile, concern for others, and cheerful attitude. She is truly a beautiful person. We, too, are LDS. May our belief in Heavenly Father and His eternal plan of happiness bring you peace and comfort. And may your memories and traditions with Kathleen live forever. Sincerely, Wendy Kerr

Dear Edwards Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Kathy’s “much too early” passing. Although I had only seen her a couple times since we all left Moraga, we did manage small “catch ups”. She was so aware of the important things in life, most of all, her family. You Bill, were so much loved and we had fun telling one another of the “wonders” of our children and grandchildren. And I loved her “glass mostly full” spirit. She always encouraged me and made me want to be a much better “daughter of God”.
This earth will definitely be a much dimmer place without the “bright light” of Kathy in it.
May you find comfort in your fondest memories,
Velma Timmons

Sorry I missed the service, as I just now read the notice. I have always admired the Harrington family. Growing up in the same neighborhood, I enjoyed interactions with your dad and LaRee. I remember your father giving me advice when I first thought about a career in law. And we all looked up to the examples of the Harrington children. I remember Kathleen as being a beautiful person in every respect. My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear about Kathy. I was out of town and didn't hear of her passing until it was too late to respond. What a beautiful Angel she was here on earth! I'm sure Heaven welcomed her with open arms. "My best to you..." during these difficult times.

Dear Edwards family,

It was an honor to attend the funeral today and to experience the loving remembrance of your wife, mother, and sister. Kathy was a remarkable person. I remember well her visit to Stephanie about sixteen months ago. My wife's health issues were burgeoning and Kathy was just on the verge of beginning chemotherapy. Now, as friends meeting in another sphere, they share faith, friendship, and a continuing influence upon their families.

May the Lord comfort and sustain you as He has us.

Edwards Family, I am so deeply saddened over the news of your mother's passing. My heart goes out to you and your family. I can't imgaine how difficult it has been for you. So many of my Jr. and Sr. High memories involved your mom and her amazing personality. She was loved by everyone who came in contact with her. What an amazing example she has been. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Bob,

I guess part of getting older is taking time to read the obituaries. I never met your sister, but the Harrington resemblance made me stop and look a little closer. How fortunate that she is better looking ! I am so sorry for your loss, but like you, I know that through the love of our Savior Jesus Christ you and your family will be blessed to share the eternities together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and you family.

Most Sincerely,
Dave and Rae Coleman

Kathy was such an exceptional and wonderful girl in high school and everyone loved her. Sadly I lost contact with her after graduation. Kathy was really beautiful both in appearance and in her heart and it doesn't surprise me to see that she continued to be that way throughout her life. What an honor it was to know her and have so many good memories of her. My sincere sympathy goes to all her family. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel!

Dorothy and I learned of your loss yesterday. Although we have lived away from Salt Lake for 10 years, we have fond memories of Kathy. She was on my "favorite"list. Her obituary described her well. Although I only saw Kathy occasionally, she was in my thoughts frequently. We met in Angel Flight at BYU the fall of 1964. She was so warm and friendly that we became immediate friends. We reconnected when our children went to Churchill and Skyline at the same time, and I was able to see her as an involved, loving mother. It was wonderful to talk to her when we would run into each other at the store or school events. She always made me feel important and was always interested in my boys and life.

Kathy's physical beauty with her gorgeous eyes was only surpassed by her inner beauty. She had a gift for making friends and helping everyone around her to feel involved and loved. I love you, Kathy, and will always appreciate your example of faith and love.

Every time I saw Kathy, she always greeted me with the warmest smile and most loving hug. She was always interested in my life and created in me a belief that I was special. I believe this to be one of her great gifts. She made others feel like they were important. She never forgot details about our children or our lives. She never boasted about herself, always selflessly concerned about others. She was a beautiful example of a great Mother. We will miss her dearly, and pray for her family at this time.
