Roger Call Obituary

Roger William Call
1935 ~ 2016
Roger William Call, 81, passed away November 20, 2016 at his home in Salt Lake City. He was born August 17, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Chauncy C. Call and Ardell Perkes Call. He attended West High School and the University of Utah where he received a PhD in Electrical Engineering. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Carol Jeanne Bjorndal in 1964 and his wife Janet Romney Crockett in 1990.
Roger served in the LDS church as a missionary in Brazil, a bishop, a stake president's counselor and as president over the Brazil Sao Paulo South mission from 1984 to 1987.
Roger was an avid inventor and do-it-yourselfer. As a young man he built a mountain cabin that the family enjoyed for over 40 years. Most recently he was remodeling the family home he grew up in near downtown Salt Lake City. More than anything he loved to be with his family. He could often be found with them on the lake in a waterski boat he built from scratch or snow skiing with them on Monday evenings.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Forsberg Call, sister Linda Call Smith, children Robert Crockett, Karen Crockett Stepanicich, David Crockett, Elizabeth Crockett Ball, Lisa Call Humphries, Brian Call, Laura Call Johnson, Michelle Call Hatfield, Crismon Payne, Collin Payne, Jordan Brough and their spouses and families including 46 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 25th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, SLC UT 84103. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 26th starting at 10:30 a.m. with a viewing from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel at 2215 E Roosevelt Ave, SLC, UT. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the general missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would be appreciated (www.ldsphilanthropies.org).

Dear Call Family,

I would like to express my love and condolences to you, the Call Family. My husband too was one of the Missionaries who served in Brazil under President Asel T. Sorensen whom they dearly loved. For over 50 years these missionaries have nurtured their friendship for each other, their love for the Brazilian people, for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and have continued to serve and lift others. Roger was a grand example and will be missed by many. Love to you all.

Presidente Call is one of the greatest men I've known! He was my mission president in So Paulo from 1985-87. He was an excellent teacher and mentor and had such a kind, gentle soul--with a great sense of humor. His counsel was always spot on, some of which I still vividly remember and live by after three decades. His impact on my life has been profound, for which I will eternally be grateful. To his family, thank you for sharing your Dad with hundreds of missionaries. I pray that you will feel of the Lord's blessings at this time.

The passing of Roger, N7RXM, is indeed a sad moment. He was a longtime valued member in the Foothill ERC Net. A ham radio group dedicated to providing emergency communications in time of emergency. Roger, You already are missed.

Roger, my friend, you are an AWESOME man!! We love you and Cheryl soooo much!

I have been honored to serve with you in church callings together following your example of faithfulness and dedication. I will be greatly miss your ham radio check-in on our Tuesday night nets here in the Foothill Stake (N7RXM) and will always treasure the memories of your support at our radio functions and emergency prep exercises. You served with patience and love and always with smiles and warmth.

I will forever treasure the recent memory of your visit to my home where you and Cheryl brought your smiles, kindness and reassurance of an assignment I was given - received from you in your fun, quiet humble way.

May Heavenly Father continually bless your family and friends with his increasing love and happiness as we all wait to see you again in paradise!
