Frances Stevenson Obituary

1/1/24 - 10/19/13
Frances (Going) Austin Stevenson, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully October 19, 2013 from causes incident to age.
Born to F. Mark Austin, Jr. and Beatrice Eliza (Going) Austin on January 1, 1924, Fran was raised in the Cottonwood area of Salt Lake City. She graduated from Granite High School and attended the University of Utah. She married her sweetheart, Newell B. Stevenson on October 27, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. Fran and Newell moved to the San Francisco area in 1956, where they raised their five sons, retiring back to Salt Lake in 1992 to be close to family.
Fran was a faithful and dedicated member of the LDS church, serving in many Primary, Young Women and Relief Society callings, and supporting Newell in his callings as Bishop, Stake President, Patriarch and Sealer. In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother and friend, Fran loved painting, flowers and crafts. She ran an arts and crafts boutique in California for several years and was always surrounded by her treasured paintings and crafts. Fran was a gourmet cook and gracious hostess, unselfishly sharing her wonderful creations with friends and family.
Fran is survived by sons Brian (Susan), Brent (Margo) and Tracy (Patricia) and sisters Lila Juhlin and Bernice Dillingham all living in the greater Salt Lake area. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Newell, sons Scott and Mark, sister Thelma Rynearson and brother Mark (Jan) Austin. She is also survived by grandchildren Jeff (Heather), Staci St. Jeor (Troy), Brett, Becky, Stephanie Waddoups (Doug), Chris (Jaime), Peter (Cari), Lindsey Briggs (Skyler), Kristen Corpron (David), David Casey (Arun), Ryan (Maggie), Austin Owens (Jonathan) and 23 great-grandchildren.
Fran and the family are most grateful to all of her special friends, church members and care-givers at Sunrise Holladay and Inspiration Hospice for their friendship and compassionate care. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday October 25 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy Utah. Friends may visit on Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8 or Friday morning from 10 to 10:45. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.

Dear Stevenson family,
Thank you for the gift your parents were in my life! Your Mom threw my baby shower when I was born, and my bridal shower 29 years later. She was my escort to the temple, and your father sealed my husband and me. They've been true friends to my entire family, loving and serving unceasingly. Their example influenced my decisions years after I left home. When an anti-Mormon made crazy claims about the temple(before I was endowed), I knew that the Stevensons would never believe such a thing, and that was enough for me. My Dad used to say he'd get baptized when Newell was made the prophet, because Newell was the best man he'd ever known. They were a perfect pair, and I will be eternally grateful for their love and influence.

I already miss you so much. Yesterday was such a special day as our family got together to honor and celebrate your life. It made me so proud to be a member of such an amazing family that you and Grandpa created. We are all so grateful for your loving example and how special you made each one of us feel. I will live my life in honor of yours.

Dear Stevenson Family,
I have such loving memories of Fran. She and my mother, Barbara Norton, were such wonderful friends, as were Newell and my dad. Fran was always such a caring, loving presence. Frank, Rick and I have such fond memories of the great times that we had with Fran, Newell, and the entire Stevenson Family, along with our wonderful Greenbrae Ward Family! I wish I could be there with the Stevenson family to celebrate her life. Just know that I loved her and am truly grateful for the influence she had on my life!

With love,

Nancy (Norton) Ellis
