Peggy Weight Obituary

Peggy Ruth Brazier Hewlett Weight
1922 - 2014
Our beloved companion, Mother, grandmother, great, and great-great grandmother left our mortal existence peacefully at home Tuesday morning November 11, 2014, while being attended to by her devoted husband Harold.
Peggy entered mortality on January 13, 1922, as a gift from God to her loving parents, Ernest Eugene and Olive Mabel Brazier. She was the youngest and affectionately called Peggy by her oldest brother.
Peggy attended schools in Salt Lake and Denver. She was an active member of Pi Beta Phi sorority at the University of Utah. She also attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She had an angelic voice and was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Peggy loved teaching school at Newman, Indian Hills, and Emerson Elementary. After teaching for nine years, she went into administration and became an Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at the University of Utah. Later, she was the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Utah Technical College until her retirement.
Peggy's life exuded leadership and involvement in everything pertaining to her children, her community, and her church. She belonged to many clubs and organizations, sharing her talents and making friends along the way.
In 1942, she married Lester F Hewlett Jr. in the Salt Lake Temple, and they had five children. Nancy Hewlett Pahnke (David) Lafayette, California; Lester F Hewlett III (deceased 1963); Patricia Hewlett Goates (David) Woodland, Utah; John Brazier Hewlett (Janet) Woodland, Utah; Ernest Brazier Hewlett (Colleen) Midway, Utah. Her posterity includes 54 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Peggy loved the Hewlett family ranch and spent many wonderful years there with her family and loved ones. She also treasured special time spent with her dear Brazier family members.
She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in every auxiliary with distinction. She loved serving with Lester in Melbourne Australia as he presided over the mission from 1969 to 1972. She truly cherished each missionary and loved her mission experience.
In 1982, she married Harold Ralph Weight in the Salt Lake Temple. Peggy loved and enjoyed his children Marny Hazeldine (Michael) Kaysville; and Chad Weight (Lori) Salt Lake City; and six grandchildren.
Peggy and Harold spent eighteen months in Ireland from 1998-99, serving as proselyting missionaries. Even in her mid- seventies she didn't miss a step. She continued her church service until her passing.
Peggy leaves a legacy of hard work, beauty, creativity, music, and love. Her example of love and inspiration will never be forgotten. Peggy and Harold have enjoyed visiting and caring for dear friends over her lifetime. Peggy and Harold loved life and especially life together. They enjoyed travel and social activities as well as quality time and experiences with family and friends. Peggy leaves the world a happier more beautiful place because of her presence. She blessed the lives of all who knew her.
The family expresses appreciation for all who have extended care, concern, and assistance.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary at 2350 East 1300 South Sunday, November 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, at noon at the Little Cottonwood 5th Ward located at 6350 South Rodeo Lane (1500 East). To Harold, John, Ernie and family. I was sadden to hear about Sister Weights death. I served in the Melbourne Australia Mission from 1970-72. I served in the mission office were I got to know the family. She was a true Mom and will always cherish the many hours we served together. My visits to SLC would find her excited to see me and my wife Becky. My son Jason, served a mission in her stake and he met her and also son John. I enjoyed singing with her in the mission. She is now very happy in our Father's presence.

Dear Hewlett Family

I had the privilege of serving the second half of my mission in Australia with President & Sister Hewlett. Part of that time was spent in the mission office where I got to know your dear mom. She was always so fun to talk to about matters of life!

Please know of our love to your dear family for her passing! She was an important part of my life!

The best to you all!

My family and I became acquainted with Peggy and Harold in the mid 80's in Park City. A wonderful friendship quickly blossomed. That friendship has endured while blessing our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren with their amazing examples of kindness and love. Peggy was a dear friend providing strength and encouragement to my late wife, JoAnn during her last years. Afterward, Harold and Peggy were always there with encouragement and unconditional love when it was most needed. There are few people in our lives we revere as much as we have revered and cherished Peggy and Harold. Together, they exemplified strength against adversity and have left a legacy of faith, hope and charity beyond measure.

In 1991, following a rather deep conversation with Harold, I penned the following poem. "Smoke rises on wings of Faith, without fear, to ride with the wind." I was looking forward for myself and my family at the time. Now, looking back, I can see how Peggy was living it and helped JoAnn find a measure of peace for the future. And now, I find solace in that knowledge. While we cherish our fond memories of Peggy, we pray for comfort and peace for her family and dear Harold.

With love and gratitude always.

J.R. Hildebrand and family.

Dear Patsy and family,
I was sorry to read about the death of your mother. No matter their age or illness losing a mother is always so hard. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was interested to see your parents served their mission in Melbourne, Australia. My sister Adrienne and I are senior sister sister missionaries serving in the Melbourne, Australia mission. We work in the office. Another fun connection with your mother.

From my childhood, the Brazier family was part of my memory in Denver, and I felt particularly important as Peggy remembered me throughout her life, whenever our paths crossed -in Salt Lake, at the ranch, and most recently at Elizabeth Lefler's funeral in Francis this past summer. She saw me in the congregation and made a special point to come to say hello. Once when we were talking about our years in Denver, we realized we had had the same Latin teacher in Gove Junior High. Peggy told me that Miss Smith insisted on calling her Peggy Brazzier instead of Brazier. What a delightful lady she was!

Dear Harold, Nancy and David,
From the first time I met Peggy, I felt like she was a "best friend". Her words that pop out in my mind were "when you come to Salt Lake, please come stay with us".
She was beautiful inside and out. The world will be minus a special ray of sunshine.
I will be thinking you on Monday. I know the service will a true celebration of a
life well lived.
My Love, Clo

To Harold and Peggy's family...I am so sorry to hear of Peggy's passing. She was a wonderful person and a mentor to me while we worked together at Salt Lake Community College (Utah Technical College). We shared many, many good times while we worked together and I appreciated her friendship so much. As time does...we often lose touch with our friends, which we did, but every chance meeting in recent years was a gift to me. Loved her dearly! Laurel Hansen

I gained an Angel...Miss Peggy came into my life in 1986. She was such a wonderful and vibrant women. She will be missed dearly. She referred to me as one of her special daughters. And it was an honor to see to it that Peggy got her beautification treatments. Little did I know that while in her presence, I received unconditional love and guidance each and every time. I am choosing to remember her "fabulous" words... Everything was a "riot". And her "choice" love touched everyone she came in contact with. Harold, you were the love of her life and I am truly sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to all of her children as well. My you find peace and comfort in your hearts at this difficult time....she will be greatly missed but never forgotten...
