Colleen Lemmon Obituary

Colleen Bushman Lemmon
1927 ~2012
On a warm summer evening, August 15, 2012, Colleen Bushman Lemmon passed away from this life to join her beloved husband, daughter and her Heavenly Father. She lived a full and meaningful life as a disciple of her Lord, filled with services to her family, friends and church. She was 85 years old and passed away peacefully in her own home, surrounded by her family.
Colleen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 14, 1927 to Eva May Murdoch and Bliss LeRoi Bushman. She was one of 5 children. She was raised in Salt Lake City, and moved to Albuquerque, NM during her teenage years. She was married to George Van Lemmon on June 16th, 1945 in Raleigh, North Carolina, while George was in the service, and they were later sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. That marriage was blessed with four children: Susie who died of Polio at the age of four, Jan Davis (Howard), Roger (Joni) and Tom (Michele). "Nani" was loved and enjoyed by 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Colleen lived a "Life of Service". While in Albuquerque, she enjoyed teaching early morning seminary and spending time with the youth. She was also the Stake Relief Society President and served alongside her husband in his callings as Stake President of the Albuquerque and Albuquerque East State.
The family returned to Salt Lake City in 1970 where George became affiliated with Heath Engineering as a Vice President. She continued her life of service in Utah. She was a hostess at the Church Office Buildings for 10 years. During that time, she also served in the Murray East Stake Relief Society. She was called to the Primary General Presidency and served in that capacity from October 1974 to April 1980. In 1987-1989 she served a mission with her husband who was the director of the San Diego Mormon Battalion Visitor Center. When they returned from their mission, Colleen served in the Jordan River Temple as an Ordinance Worker and as the Inservice Director of the women temple workers for 10 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Humanitarian Fund of the LDS Church. The family thanks the wonderful nurses and hospice care workers at CareSource Home Health and Hospice for their tender and thoughtful care of our Mother.
A viewing with the family will be held on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hyland Lake Ward, 981 Revere Circle (just north of 5600 So.) There will also be a viewing at the church, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the SLC Cemetery. Online condolences shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com

We have loved Colleen and her family for many years. She was always a quiet giant, very spiritual and always knew the right thing to say. She will be missed but know she has been missed by George for far too long now. We cherish our memories of her and George in the ward and the neighborhood. So Sorry to hear of her passing and want the family to know she will be missed.
