Roger, so very sorry to hear of your family's loss. I was traveling and didn't hear about your mother's passing until Sunday evening. I'm sad that I missed the service last weekend.
I'm a firm believer that there is a mathematical equation of life that insists that the degree of grief is in direct proportion to the amount of love. If you embrace the one, you must accept the other. However, there is a surprising and almost unexpected element of joy in sorrow. It seems counterintuitive but does exist.
Death and separation breaks our hearts. However, our spirit seems to be heightened to levels previously unknown. A broken heart forces us to rearrange our priorities to their proper place. Scar tissue will form around our wounded hearts and our hearts heal and are stronger.
Regrettably we are all bound by the terms of this eternal contract. And that is a part of mortality that's both difficult and beautiful.
I fondly remember your mother as a warm and loving person who held sacred – her friends, her faith and her family, a legacy worthy of emulation.
Warmest regards to you and your family…she will be missed.
