Beverly Taylor Obituary

Sept. 9, 1951 ~ Jan. 11 2017
Beverly Arthur Taylor, beloved wife, mother and stepmother, passed away Jan. 11 at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. She had battled cancer of the lymph system since the spring of 2016 but had bounced back in the fall, managing to host family and friends for a wedding reception, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Loving and devout, Bev always seemed to have a smile on her face and a kind word to share. Steady, thoughtful and always impeccably dressed, she was held in high regard and much loved.
Bev was born in Chicago on Sept. 9, 1951, and grew up in its suburb of Homewood, Illinois. Her father, Sam, was a businessman, and her mother, Helen, a housewife, with Bev an only child. She attended SMU (Southern Methodist University) for one year before transferring to Arizona State University, from which she graduated in 1973.
After enjoying a trip to Italy during college, Bev took a job as a reservation agent for Continental Airlines. Soon she moved on to become a flight attendant for Western Airlines, known in the 1970s for its memorable slogan "the only way to fly." Bev remained with the company after Western merged with and became Delta Airlines.
On Oct. 2, 1982, she married Joe Taylor, a Delta Airlines pilot who had also flown with Western. It was Joe's second marriage, Bev's first. They settled together in Salt Lake City, Delta's new western hub.
In 1993, they welcomed a baby boy, Grant Benjamin Taylor. After having worked sixteen years as a flight attendant, Bev decided to devote herself to raising and homeschooling Grant-which she succeeded at doing through most of his high school years. Grant ultimately graduated from Brighton High School, and, in 2015, the Air Force Academy. In June 2016, much to Bev's delight, Grant married Cierra Anderson, also of Salt Lake City.
Bev was also a wonderful stepmother to five kids from Joe's previous marriage: Joe, Tim, Brett, Rick and Heather, and a step-grandmother to seven grandchildren. Most of them reside in the Sacramento area in California.
A longtime member of the Grace Community Bible Church and a bible study leader at the Salt Lake City Chinese Christian Church, Bev was a devout Christian and was admired for leading a life of principle and grace. In her last few years, she took a bright young Taiwanese girl under her wing and tutored her daily, helping her to flourish.
Bev is survived by her husband Joe, her son Grant and daughter-in-law Cierra, and her stepchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Community Bible Church in Sandy, Utah. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

On the Acknowledgements Page of my Proverbs 31 Bible Study book, I began this way:
In 2017, one of the godliest women I know died of cancer at age 65. She loved the Lord with all her heart and strength, and honored her husband throughout her life even when he did not always share her spiritual interests. She left her successful career when her only child was born, and homeschooled him so capably, he graduated from the Air Force Academy. Her last words when told that she would soon be with the Lord were, "I'm so not worthy."
Those words remind me that my work for God is about Him, not me. It is fitting for me to acknowledge Bev in a book about Proverbs 32 virtue.

Bev was a ROCK and pillar of faith. She was always thinking of others and how to help. She helped me navigate a very difficult time in my life. As much as I'd like to think it was just me, Bev was there for MANY in just the same way. She would make you feel like you're the only one, the center of her focus and thoughts. This was a special gift she had and something for which to aim. Her sole focus was serving the Lord and that was through loving people. I look forward to seeing you, Bev. My heart breaks for those you left and me as well, but it won't be long 'til we're reunited. Much love and comfort to Joe and Grant.

I am so grateful for Bev's kindness to my son Ryan back in the late 80's and early 90's. She befriended him, a lanky nine-year-old neighbor, during a difficult time in him young life. Her kindness and listening ear really had a positive impact in his life. Will never forget this gentle, beautiful woman.

Joe, I was very sorry to hear of the passing of your wife, Beverly. While I only had the pleasure of meeting her once , while she was deadheading on one of my flights , she was such a sweet and gentle person. I know you and your family will miss her deeply; hold on to the knowledge that you will be together again and keep all your good memories deep in your heart

Bev was a beautiful soul inside as well as out... We only flew a few flights together out of DEN when she first started flying, but she was such a joy to work with, never complaining, always smiling and eager to please our passengers who in turn immediately loved her! So, I was shocked and saddened today to hear of her passing. Am sending my condolences to the family---my thoughts and prayers are with you.

It is so hard to believe that Bev has left this world. While she left a void that cannot be filled here on Earth, I know she is filling Heaven with her dazzling smile, pure spirit and gentle soul. Her love of God permeated every aspect of her life, and every person she was with. She touched so many hearts with her goodness, joy and positive outlook, and I for one am eternally grateful to have been her friend for so many years. We will be "sisters in Christ" forever!! To Joe, Grant, Cierra and your entire family, Michael and I extend our most sincere condolences to all of you, for your great loss, but you know well that Bev will be watching over you and loving you from afar, even as we hold her memory dear in our hearts. God's Blessing be upon all of you!
With our love,
Michael and Jan Mullin

We loved Bev's enthusiasm, bright eyes, distinctive laugh, devotion to Joe and Grant, and her heart for God. She not only loved God's Word, she lived it. What a pure and beautiful woman, inside and out, and what a loss to her family and friends. We ask God to comfort and strengthen you, as only He can.

I know our amazing God is saying "Well done, good and faithful servant" but in my selfish way I still want her here. Bev took me under her wing when I was 14 yrs old. She showed me love and grace like I've never seen before. Words can't describe how incredible she was, there was something about her that I've never seen in a person before something that I wanted. She is the reason I have a personal relationship with God. I'm humbled and honored to have known her and call her my friend. My prayers go out to Joe, the kids and the grandkids.

I know Bev is dancing in heaven right now, but I wished she could have stayed with us much longer. Everything I think to say about this wonderful, loving woman sounds so superlative, but if you knew her, it was just Bev. She reflected the love of the Lord Jesus Christ in her smile, her words, her deeds and her sweet, fun personality. When Pete and I were divorced, she wrote a heartfelt letter to us. She would always say, "It was the Lord." But that letter saved our marriage, got me to Bible Study and change my life! She was always gracious, always smiling, always understanding and encouraging. How I will miss her!
