South Jordan, Utah- Our beloved son, nephew, cousin and friend Matthew Earl Holt, age 46, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017. Matthew was born on February 18, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl William Holt and Maxine Scroggin Holt. He grew up in South Jordan, Utah. Matthew graduated from Bingham High School with many lifelong friendships and memories. He received an Academic Letter and was named Miner of the Year. He graduated from Westminster College Summa Cum Laude in Psychology in 1993. While attending Westminster College, Matthew was an officer in Alpha Chi. After graduation, Matthew worked at the Children's Center forever changing the lives of those he was able to help. Matthew loved working with people and managed several salons in the Draper area and then expanded to managing salons from Layton to St. George, Utah. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission at the Jordan River Temple. Matthew loved to travel, and anyone who was lucky enough to travel with Matt was lucky enough! He was loved by everyone - young and old - and everyone in between. Matthew loved to laugh, and though his life was plagued with constant medical concerns, his smile was quick, and he never let his body stop him! Matthew was generous and funny, witty and kind. He had an eye for fashion, a unique style, and Matthew LOVED to shop!
Survived by his parents, Earl and Maxine Holt. Preceded in death by grandparents: Alma and Helen Holt, Rosa and Jean Resch and Max Scroggin.
Viewing to be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Goff Mortuary (8090 S. State St., Midvale.) Funeral Services to be held Friday, April 21st at 11 AM at the LDS Chapel located at 1540 W. 10400 S., South Jordan with viewing beforehand from 9:45-10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. Interment, South Jordan City Cemetery. www.goffmortuary.com

Dear Maxine,
I hope you remember me, Connie Bertoch, I worked in the copy room at South Jordan Middle School. I remember you coming in and the wonderful visits we had. You shared with our family a book you had put together of the Holt Family. My husband's uncle was Byrun Holt who married Helen Bertoch.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your son. Our daughter Dawnn Bertoch (Bruns) went to school with Matthew, hung out with him, and was in his graduating class. She also was very sad to hear of this news.
Know that our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this time of sorrow.

Earl, I just heard this terrible news. I am so sorry and hope that you will some how know that he is in a better place. I also had fun talking to Matt when ever I was at your house. I too know the pain of losing a son. You and Lynn are 2 of the nicest people I have ever know.

Dear Earl and Maxine and the entire Holt family,
Please allow me to add my most sincere and heart felt love to you all at this tender time.
My wife Rusley has shared her experience with Matt, one singular experience almost 25 years ago, and she still remembers it like it was yesterday. That is the influence and legacy that Matt has left for all of us. You only had to know him for a minute to feel of his love. He was truly sent here to earth to minister to each of us and bring joy to our lives. What an amazing blessing his life is for us all! To me, growing up with Matt in the same church ward, he was a person I always looked up to, even though he was younger than I. Looking back now on that time in my life he gave me the oppotlrtunity to grow spiritually as we fasted and prayed as a ward family and experienced the true miracles that followed. I will be forever grateful for those gifts.
Please know of our love for each of you, even though we haven't seen you Earl and Maxine for a long time. I was able to listen to Matthews funeral service and I was reminded of the wonderful close knit family that you are. I know that our Savior will bear you up and hold you in His hand in the coming days and years, as he does for all of us.

When I started going back to Church more consistently Matt welcomed me with open arms. He always had a smile on his face. Matt always made you feel like you were the most important person in the world, anytime I would see him, or bump into him at a movie he always had that great smile and was happy to see you.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I know we only get around to seeing each other at class reunions, but our memories and friendships stay with us forever. I was with my son who was being interviewed for a teaching job at West Jordan Junior High (middle-school),I was walking down the halls. One hall in particular hadn't changed a bit. I had very clear visions of us walking down that hall during lunch. From what I have heard and read, Matt was a super-man! I know that it is very difficult losing a loved one. May God Comfort you both in the coming days.

I am so saddened tonight...I just heard about Matthews passing, I have never forgotten MATTHEW! When Russ and I first started dating, He brought me to a party...I knew absolutely no one and Matt came right up to me and introduced himself, he made me feel so welcome!! He must have talked to me for an hour! I am So forever grateful for that experience and I will never forget Matthew! Thank you to both of you for touching my life in countless ways! In the last 10 years Matt became such an integral part of our "hair days" with Heather! My sons and myself loved to chit chat and listen to all the stories, he always had such wise advice for my boys as they were making their way in the world with their unique gifts...we all love you and will miss you dearly.

I love Matt!!! He is the sweetest, kindest, witty man and so great at what he did. I will miss the reminder calls for my hair appointments at the salon and seeing him and his fashionable style and genuine smile. I was saddened to read of your passing in search for another obituary of our dear friend, Gertrude, who lived to be 102 and also passed Easter morning! Say Hi to her in Heaven! I remember Matt from Studio 603. Matt was kind, witty, funny, and so much more. He always had us laughing. I loved his style and I looked forward to seeing him at my hair appointments. I lost track of Matt over the years, but it is apparent how many lives he touched. It is amazing to me just how many people knew Matt. Different friends in different circles and at least one of them knew Matt. What a kind and gentle soul. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear about Matthew! I was on dialysis with him 37 years ago at the U of U. He, Susan Poulson, and I were on at the same time of day, so we got to know each other very well. (I recently had my fifth kidney transplant and am doing well.) I hope our Savior's Resurrection is a great solace to you at this difficult time. God bless!

I met Matt when my brother & he were pediatric dialysis patients at U of U. They became great friends! Matt was both outgoing & kind - while he had significant health issues he never lacked for a smile! I don't know that you would have remembered me but you've always held a place in my heart! Matt was gentle prince. He was always kind,. I know he had real bad days. I never witnessed him giving into feeling sorry for himself. His mortal body simply was not a match to his spirit. Matt Holt was my freshman crush! He was neverending sweet, cute and kind! I will always remember dancing with him at a church dance and being lucky enough for him to say hi to me in the halls st school. My heart breaks for his loved ones, of which there are many.
