ANN COPIER Obituary

Ann Copier "Ardent Gardener" Johanna Adriana SehlmeierCopier, our precious mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2010. Faith, dignity, knowledge and love were constants in her life; we honor her pure example. Ann was born on January 25, 1925 to Johan and Antonia Sehlmeier in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She excelled as a student in a rigorous high school and worked as an office professional. A dedicated member of the L.D.S. Church, she served a two-year mission in The Netherlands prior to her emigration to the United States in 1948. Following a courtship spanning two continents and several years, Ann married Hendrik Copier on September 27, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. The six children born to this union were foremost in her thoughts and she cherished her role as their mother. Ann encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue a variety of interests and develop their talents, and she delighted in their achievements. In addition to being with her family, Ann loved gardening, reading (especially the newspaper), teaching Primary and playing Primary songs on the piano. In 1986, Ann graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah with a B.A. in History. Ann is survived by her children, Robert Henry (Sandy), Dorothy (David), Toni (Kevin), Henry (Tamara), Annette (Lowell), Wendy (Jon David); her sister, Antonia; her brothers, John (Marilyn), Adrian (Graciela); her 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her niece, Anya (Vaun), and many other beloved family members and friends. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (2003), and her parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the East Millcreek Fourth Ward, 3103 E Craig Drive (3600 South). Viewings will take place Monday, June 21 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Interment will take place at Elysian Burial Gardens. Tributes and messages may be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com.

I love you so much much Grandma and miss you dearly. I am comforted to know that you are with loved ones on the other side. Thank you for you amazing example to me of dignity, service, hard-work, and beauty inside and out. I will miss gardening with you and your "droopies" that you always had on hand.

Love forever,

Susan Bradford

We are sad to hear of the passing of your mother and our Tante Ansje. We so wanted to attend the funeral today but life circumstances wouldn't not allow it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. We can imagine the grin on your father's face as your mother joined his this week.

My grandma was a wonderful example of unconditional love and support. We will all miss her dearly, but know that she is with many loved ones that cherish her just as much as we do. I love you gram. I will miss explaining your accent that I never heard to my friends because it was just your voice to me. Thank you for being such an amazing woman.

I look at that sweet picture of my Tante Ansje and still don't believe this has happened. I just thought she would always be with us. This is very hard for me and even harder for my mom. We know her reunion with her husband and parents and family members will be sweet, but we will really miss her.
