Chiro Costanza Obituary
1940 ~ 2012
My dear sweetheart since our high school days, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, was escorted home by angels to his Father in Heaven and a joyful reunion with his Mother and Father, grandparents and other loved ones on October 6, 2012. He passed quietly and peacefully in his sleep in the early dawning of the morning, with his adoring wife holding his hand. Married 53 years to LaNette Madsen Costanza. Chiro was born on April 5, 1940, to Joseph J. and Frieda Aragone Costanza in Murray, Utah. He spent his childhood years in what was then known as Union, and in Draper, Utah. He was taught to work hard on the family farm and for neighborhood chicken growers and farmers. As a teenager he worked at the old Grand Central grocery store on State Street in Murray as a bagger. He learned the trade of welding at Jordan High School and after graduation, worked at several steel fabrication companies, and then at Kennecott Copper, where he retired in 2002. He then drove school bus part time for Jordan School District. He said that was the best job he ever had. He loved the kids. He loved old cars, trucks, tractors, and working on them. His old 1953 GMC pickup, starting up early in the morning and going down the street, is a fond memory in our neighborhood. He enjoyed gardening and working around the yard and house. He was a big tease. He loved his family, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his friends. He is remembered by neighborhood friends for his ready bright smile, sparkling eyes, chuckles and his now famous one word vocabulary, in spite of his difficult circumstances since a massive stroke in 2009. He had an inborn jolly, fun nature. Member of the LDS Church. He is survived by loving wife, LaNette of Sandy; children, Christopher Costanza of Sandy, Randy (Diane) Costanza of Riverton, Julie Costanza of West Jordan, John (Lisa) Costanza and Katrina (Jerry) Householder, both of St. George; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Anthony and Leanard; sister, Rosemarie Terry. Preceded in death by his parents. We thank the wonderful caregivers at Highland Care Center and Hospice for Utah. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Jordan 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 9331 So. 300 East, Sandy, Utah. There will be a viewing Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, and again Friday 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to services at the church. Interment, Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 So. State St., Sandy, Utah. www.goffmortuary.com
