Bountiful, Utah-Dean Carlyle Hirschi (94) passed away peacefully in his sleep early on January 17, 2019 at his home in Bountiful, Utah where he had been under the care of his neighbors and family. He was born December 29, 1924 in California. Dean lived a very blessed life and served the Lord and his country well. He served in the US Navy in World War II aboard the destroyer USS Robinson, the only destroyer in its squadron of eight that was not struck or severely damaged. Dean was awarded eight battle stars. The ship was under the watch of an angel. After the war, Dean served a mission for LDS church in Austria/Switzerland. He was the first American missionary after the war to serve in the home town of Adolph Hitler. While on his mission he met the love of his life , Lydia Hanna Goetz. He was later married in the Mesa LDS Temple to her and started his family and his dream job with the US National Weather Service. He retired after 40 years. Dean enjoyed taking care of his family, making sure they had all the necessities. He liked to track and log the weather and had lots of gadgets to aid him. His kind and gentle ways combined with a positive attitude and a twinkle in his eye, caused the people around him to be forever endeared to him. Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia and his son, Jon. Dean is survived by his brother Richard Hirschi (Ruth), son Dean Jr. (Helen) daughter Becky (John), as well as grandchildren Johnny, Roman, Adelaide, and Nicholas.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11:00 am in the LDS Chapel (3350 S 100 E, Bountiful, UT) A visitation will take place 1hr. prior to service also at the church. The family will have an evening visitation Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 7-8 pm at the Memorial Lake View Mortuary (1640 E Lakeview Dr. Bountiful, UT).
