Dewey Black Obituary

Dewey Gerome Black 10/7/1926 ~ 2/7/2010 Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away February 7, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was 83. He was born in Jefferson County, Georgia, the fifth of nine children of William and Addie Black. As a young man Dewey traveled to Utah and met the love of his life, Lyla Savage. Dewey worked in the car business for many years, eventually running his own car lot. He had many admirers because of his integrity and fun sense of humor. Dewey loved the game of golf and played often with family and friends. He also enjoyed running, bowling, pool, watching football and working in his yard. He loved playing with his children and grand-children. His family is grateful for the example of his honorable life. He is survived by his wife, Lyla, and children: Debbie (George) Baddley, Craig (Connie) Black, Bruce (Allison) Black, Michelle (Randy) Marshall, Kimberlee (Doug) Carlson, Tara (Brett) Heiner; and 19 grandchildren, 13 greatgrands and siblings: William, James, Leon, Charles, Billy Ray, Francis McKnight and Betty Kent. Our family wishes to express our sympathy to Aunt Lyla and family. We enjoyed visiting with you and getting to know you better when we had opportunity to visit at Grandmother and Granddaddy's home here in Georgia and when we visited in Salt Lake in the 90's.

February 12, 2010

Dear Aunt Lyla and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family at this time. We know he is well again. Maybe he is even playing golf with my Michael. Maybe one day we will get to see you again.

Dear Lyla and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I too agree that he is with his parents, his grandsons, and other family. I have fond memories of being part of the family and spending some time working with Dewey at Streator Chevrolet. He always treated me with great respect and friendship. He always wanted to play the Augusta golf course. I wish I could have arranged it for him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lyla:

Although it has been several years since you and Dewey were part of our neighborhood and ward we still have many fond memories of working with you and being a friend. Dewey was a great guy and got us some pretty neat cars. He was always helpful and had a great attitude when helping others. I even remember our talks about Streator Chevrolet....how long ago was that? We miss the choice times but remember the great smile. We know the Lord will bless you in the way you need right now.
