Donald Ernest Shelley Obituary
Donald Ernest Shelley
1947 ~ 2012
Donald E. Shelley, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away in his home on April 24, 2012. Don was born on November 4, 1947 in Lehi, Utah to Stanford Joseph and Elizabeth Marie (Saunders) Shelley (both deceased).
Don was a proud member of the United State Army National Guard. He served his country honorably for 20 years retiring as a Captain. He truly loved and cared for the men that he had been placed in their command and as a result had many life long friends because of his leadership style. There was always some life experience lesson that could be learned from the various National Guard stories that he was more than willing to share with everybody.
For over thirty years Don was a phenomenal Certified Public Accountant. Don had a truly unique manner in which he conducted his business, he loved and cared for every one of his clients. He would not only assist with their accounting needs, he was unofficially their counselor, confidant, therapist and friend. Anybody and everybody knew they could always consult Don with anything that came their way...and also get their taxes done. His clients truly loved him because he loved them first. With everything he did he understood that people don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care.He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints following a strong testimony and love for his Savior Jesus Christ. He served a Spanish speaking mission in Los Angeles California where he met his life long best friend Kraig Ford.
Don had various loves and hobbies in his life, the most prominent being his love of golf and photography. Whether you were watching the Masters Tournament with him, or accompanying him on one of his frequent trips to "swing the sticks" and witness his "putting with his petticoats on" it was always a pure pleasure. He was immensely proud of his love of photography. Capturing a sunset at a lighthouse on the coast, or a bustling small village in Italy, or carrying on his proud role as "Camera Happy Pappy" and gathering memories of remarkable family moments, he held a marvelous eye for beauty.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 36 years, Pat Shelley, 4 children, Josh (Michelle) Shelley, Jacob (Cassandra) Shelley, Genny (Mat) Houston, Jaime (Tom) Gubler, 10 wonderful grandchildren that he was never shy to brag about, and his sister Anita (Donnie) Miller. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his sister Clara Marie McNeill.
Viewing will be held at the LDS Prescott Chapel, 10975 So. 1700 East, Fri. 04/27/12 7-9 PM, and Sat. 4/28/12 10-11:30 AM.. Services will be held in the same location, Sat. 04/28/12, 12:00 Noon. Interment at Lehi City Memorial Cemetery, 153 North 100 East, Lehi, Utah. Messages and tributes to the family can be posted at www.larkinmortuary.com
