Grantsville, UT-Doran LaVar Hiatt of Grantsville, Utah, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 in Lehi, Utah surrounded by his family members. Doran was born October 13, 1933, in Blackfoot Idaho to Aldwin Wilford Hiatt and Mary Samuelson Hiatt. They were later divorced and his family moved to Sandy, Utah where he was raised. His mother married Ivan Frandsen and he gained 4 brothers along with his older sister and brother. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1951 and later was drafted into the Army, where he spent a year of service in Heidelberg, Germany. He married Fae Nelson in 1954 (later divorced). They were the parents of 7 children. He later married Marie Day and they spent many years together in their home in Grantsville. He worked as a Radar Technician for the Air National Guard until his retirement.
He was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in various callings including that of a temple worker at the Salt Lake Temple, which he loved.
He was enthusiastically involved in building and flying model airplanes - he lived for this! He enjoyed many good friends and associates through the years with this great interest. He loved tinkering, inventing and working on projects. He played the piano by ear beautifully, which is a sweet memory to his family.
He is survived by his children: Kim Hiatt Day, Highland; Kelli Illi (Marti) Pleasant Grove; Kacee Meyers (Scot) Murray; Kenni Christensen (David) Riverton; KD Taylor (Roger) Lehi; and Shon Hiatt (Jennifer) Sandy; 32 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Dean Frandsen, Dale Frandsen, Dick Frandsen and Rex Lee Frandsen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; parents; daughter, Kari Hiatt; brother, Verann Hiatt; and sister, Donna V. Paget.
The family wishes to thank Sunrise Home Health & Hospice and his loving care-givers Mary and Julie who forged a caring friendship with him. Our appreciation also for the staff at Abbington Manor for their kindness and hospitality the last few months of his life. Funeral services will be held Thursday March 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Mortuary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah with a viewing one hour prior to the services.
